We are an organization bringing awareness to the Movember Foundation and the men's health community.

Hello! My name is Ian Saltmarsh, and I run a non-profit called Travel for a Cure. Travel for a Cure is a third-party supporter of the Movember Foundation*. I've raised awareness for the men's health community for almost ten years! Although I've had great support over the years (raising over $23,000!), I want to do something BIG to celebrate a decade of giving back. My goal this year is to raise ov

er $100,000 by canoeing the Mississippi River and hosting fundraising opportunities along the way! You read that right! On Monday, May 29th, I will start the 2552- mile canoe trip from the headwaters at Lake Itasca to the salt waters of the Gulf of Mexico! This journey has always been a dream of mine, and I can't wait to share it with everyone! I humbly invite you to support us on this trip to help men live longer, happier, healthier lives!

*The Movember Foundation is a leading global non-profit organization committed to changing the face of men's health. Men are encouraged to grow mustaches during Movember (formerly known as November) to spark conversation and raise vital funds for its men's health programs. However, the discussion isn't limited to just one month. Year-round, since 2003, the Movember community has raised over $1.18 billion and funded over 1,250 projects focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's mental health and suicide prevention.

After a good nights rest at The Lighthouse Villa, we made a few quick stops on our way toward home.
Fort Jackson was just up the road and we're so glad we stopped! Then it was off to New Orleans for some morning beignets and creole pralines🤤
We dropped Troy off at his hotel, as he was taking the train back to Wisconsin in the morning. Then we made our way to Biloxi, MS for a quick daycation!

📍The Lighthouse Lodge & Villas
Venice, Louisiana

After a week of camping on the riverbank, the guys were very thankful for a long shower and a cozy bed! Although they mentioned it was a little strange not being covered in sand😂
We didn't see any alligators during our stay, but there were many little lizards.
This family run business was the definition of southern hospitality! It was the perfect end to such a memorable journey.

Day 66 (Part 3 - Day 29) *CONTINUED- Part 3*
Head of Passes, Mississippi River ➡️ Venice, LA

The guys made it back to the Venice Marina safely with help from Captain Triston! They did it! Katie and Monster met them at the docks and everyone grabbed celebratory drinks and apps at CrawGator's before heading separate ways. Brandon headed to Triston's cabin in Buras, LA, while Troy, Ian and Katie stayed at the Lighthouse Lodge in town. The Villa was the perfect cherry on top to end the journey! It was an unbelievable day filled with waves of emotions.

Day 66 (Part 3 - Day 29) *CONTINUED- Part 2*
Pointe à la Hache, LA ➡️ Head of Passes, Mississippi River
49 miles today, 2310 miles total!

Ian, Troy, and Brandon reached the Head of Passes!
From the headwaters at Lake Itasca to the saltwater of the Gulf of Mexico, what a journey!

After their quick pit stop in Venice, it was smooth sailing to the Head of Passes! The current slowed and the environment resembled much of the beginning of the River, calm and filled with nature's beauty. The River was also clear enough to see their paddles gliding through the water!
With about 6 miles left to go, they crossed a freightliner who called out to them on the marine radio. His words of encouragement brought the guys to tears as reality started to sink in.
Once they reached the 0 marker of the Mississippi River, Brandon climbed the tower to sign their names in the legendary journal!
Captian Triston met them at the bouy and loaded their remaining gear and both canoes into his fishing boat. Triston is a good friend of Brandon's, and the timing worked out perfectly for him to offer his help! This way, the guys didn't have to paddle back up the River to the Venice Marina.

Ian, Troy, and Brandon reached the Head of Passes!
From the headwaters at Lake Itasca to the saltwater of the Gulf of Mexico, what a journey!
They couldn't have asked for better weather on the final day. There were storms in the forecast, but they were never hit. They could actually see the paths of rain traveling over the River. However, the rain was always either far enough back or far enough ahead.
The guys happened upon a peregrine falcon nest at mile marker 31. They had to paddle close to the marker to avoid the channel. However, the falcon gave them an earful to let them know they were a little too close to her as well!
Katie met them in Venice, LA , to help unload a bit of their gear before paddling the last 10 miles. Venice is the southern most point vehicles can drive along the River. After talking to the local sheriff, she found the best available spot to access them. It was a bit of a challenge climbing a very uneasy pile of rocks followed by a steep hill back up to the vehicle.
Check back for Part 2 and Part 3 of Day 66 update! Social media will only let us upload so much at once😅
