We’re off to a busy start this year.

Dolphins have been spotted on every trip, and with the water warming up the manatees have started making their way back into the area as well. It’s shaping up to be a beautiful year on the water.

10 years ago, a 9-year-old dolphin named Baby Face was struck by a boat — likely after getting too close while people were feeding her — leaving her with three deep lacerations near her tail. After the accident, there were serious concerns about whether she’d survive on her own, but NOAA determined it was best for her to remain in her natural habitat.

Over the years, I’ve spotted her numerous times, and her tail healed incredibly well. I hadn’t seen her in about 6–8 months, until yesterday. To my surprise, she was swimming with a brand-new baby! 🐬

It’s an amazing sight to see her thriving and now raising a calf of her own. The little one looks to be around six months old and will stay by her side for the next 2–3 years before venturing off with other young dolphins. The area is absolutely thriving with life right now — we’ve got about 8–10 baby dolphins in the area, all around the same age.
Just thought I’d share my feel-good moment of the week. 💙

We ran two tours today and stopped at one of our favorite spots — the sandbar that’s been growing over the past three months. Before it formed, the water here was 3–4 feet deep, but now it stretches into a beautiful island. These photos were all taken today at high tide, and at low tide the island grows 3–4 times in size.

It’s located about a mile off Shell Key and is one of the most stunning spots in the area.
It’s the perfect place to walk the shoreline and collect unique shells — and guests often find sand dollars right along the beach. Snorkeling in the 3–4 feet of water gives another chance to spot larger conch shells and even more sand dollars.

On the way out to Shell Key, we spotted a school (also called a fever) of cownose rays gliding beneath the surface. These rays are not the same as stingrays — they swim freely in the ocean and don’t bury themselves in the sand. On the way back, the dolphins came out to play in our wake. ☀️🐬🏝️🤿🐠🐙
