✈️ TRAVEL TIP: Think Twice Before Putting Your Coat in an Airport Security Bin! 🧥

Next time you go through airport security, please think twice before dropping your coat directly into that gray bin!

You put your coat in the bin, and two minutes later, it’s back around your neck and right under your chin. 😳

But have you ever stopped to think about what was in that bin before your coat?

👢 Shoes and boots that have walked through parking garages.

👜 Bags that have been set down on bathroom floors.

👶 Diaper bags and countless other personal items passing through those same bins all day long.

And here’s what many travelers don’t realize: security bins aren't necessarily disinfected between passengers.

Research conducted at Helsinki Airport in Finland found that security trays were a common surface for detecting respiratory viruses during flu season. In fact, the trays showed more viral contamination than the other surfaces researchers tested.

So, what can you do to protect yourself?

✅ Tip #1: Fold your coat with the collar and lining tucked inward, then place it on top of your carry-on bag.

✅ Tip #2: Better yet, if you have room, put your coat inside your carry-on so it doesn't touch the bin at all.

✅ Tip #3: Clean your hands with hand sanitizer after passing through security, especially before eating or touching your face.

These little precautions take just seconds and can help you travel more comfortably and confidently! 🌎

✈️ 10 AIRPORT MISTAKES YOU SHOULD NEVER MAKE IN 2026! 🧳

🚨 “I'm sorry, I can't check you in today.”

Those are words NO traveler wants to hear!

Over the past 10 days, I've shared 10 important airport tips to help you avoid unexpected expenses, travel delays, and problems that could disrupt your vacation.

If you missed any of the posts, here's your airport travel checklist! ✅

✈️ 1. Don't assume your ID is still valid for travel.
Check your driver's license, passport expiration date, and destination entry requirements before leaving home.

🧳 2. Don't guess your carry-on size.
Measure your bag, including wheels and handles, and check your airline's size and weight restrictions.

🔋 3. Never pack spare lithium batteries in checked luggage.
Power banks and spare lithium batteries generally belong in your carry-on. Check your airline's battery rules before flying.

Read the signs and follow the instructions at your specific screening lane.

Keep your belongings with you, and never agree to transport something when you don't know what's inside.

Your barcode may expose private booking information. Share your vacation photos instead!

Another security screening could mean additional restrictions. Check the rules for your entire itinerary before purchasing.

If the Schengen short-stay rule applies to you, remember the general limit is 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. Check current entry requirements before traveling.

Day 10: Don't Guess How Many Days You've Spent in Europe!

Dreaming of a long European vacation? Planning a river cruise with extra days in Italy, France, Portugal, or Spain?

Here's a travel rule you need to know!
for years, nobody was really counting. Someone stamped your passport, and if you went a little over, a tired officer might never notice. That's over Europe's new entry and exit system has been running since April. When you cross the border now, they take your fingerprints and a live photo. No more ink stamp. That record stays on file for three years, and every time you come back after that, it's a quick scan. The limit itself is the same as always, 90 days in any 180 across the whole Schengen area. What changed is that the count is now done by computer. It's exact an
d it's shared across 29 countries.
Here's how people get caught. They count the days of this trip, but the rule looks back 180 days. So a few weeks in Italy in the spring and a long stay in Portugal in the fall. That can add up to more than 90, even though neither trip felt long. So you don't think you went over is gone. If the system shows you overstayed, that could mean being refused entry next time or being banned from coming back at all, and nobody at an airline counter can fix that. An apology doesn't fix it either. And

There's one more thing coming, a new travel permit for Americans visiting Europe called ESTIAS. It's about €20. The start date keeps getting postponed , so check before you buy any ticket to Europe when it starts. If you don't have it, the airline won't let you board,

📅 Keep track of your entry and exit dates with room to spare.
🗺️ never plan your flight home on day 90.
🛂 Verify the entry requirements for your nationality and destination.
✈️ And there's an official short stay calculator online. Use it but remember it helps you count. It doesn't give you permission, that's all. 10
Don't assume you can stay longer just because you weren't questioned on an earlier trip.

Also, check official information about Europe's Entry/Exit System and ETIAS travel authorization before departure. Their requirements and implementation dates may differ, so verify the current status rather than relying on an old post or video.
Planning ahead is especially important if you're combining a cruise, a land tour, and an extended European vacation.

Day 9: Don't Leave Home With Questions About What's in Your Bag!

❓ Have you ever stood at airport security wondering whether you could bring something through?
Maybe it's a pair of scissors, a special food item, a medical device, or a toiletry you're not sure about.
You don't want to throw it away, miss your flight, or hold up the line.

Here's the solution: Check before you pack!
🇺🇸 If you're departing from the United States, TSA offers resources to help answer questions about items you want to bring through security.
📸 Take a photo of the item if that helps explain your question and text to "AskTSA"for current guidance.
💬 Check the official TSA website o
♿ If you have a disability, medical condition, or medical device and need help at security, request at least 72-hours prior to your departure , you may request the services of a TSA Passenger Support Specialist (PSS), who can provide assistance through security screening. A PSS is a TSA officer who has received specialized training, including how to effectively assist and communicate with individuals with disabilities or medical conditions; and passengers who need additional screening assistance. Requesting PSS service does not exempt you from security screening.

To make the request, please contact them at least 72-hours prior to your departure by completing the TSA Cares form or calling TSA Cares at (855) 787-2227.
Remember that the final screening decision rests with the officer, so allow extra time for unusual items.

A few minutes of preparation at home can save time and stress at the airport.

Day 8: Check Your Connection Before Buying Duty-Free Liquor!

🛍️ That duty-free bargain could become a purchase you never get to take home!
You're traveling internationally, spot a bottle of liquor at the airport shop, and think you've found the perfect gift.
But wait—do you have a connecting flight?

Here's what you need to know:
🍾 The bottle looks like a bargain. They put it in a sealed plastic bag with the receipt inside and you carry it right onto the plane. That sealed bag is the only reason it's allowed. It's well over 3.4 ounces. The seal and the receipt are what make it legal. Here's where it goes wrong. If you have to go through security again at your connecting airport and that bag has been opened, or the receipt isn't inside, or that country doesn't recognize the seal, the bottle stays right there at the checkpoint.
🔒 Keep the bottle in its required sealed security bag with the receipt.
✈️ If you must pass through security again, the bottle may be subject to additional restrictions. Don't assume a sealed bag guarantees acceptance at every airport.

On some international arrivals into the United States, you may need to collect your checked luggage for customs and then recheck it. If permitted, you may be able to place the bottle in your checked bag before rechecking it.

My advice? Check the rules for your entire itinerary before making that purchase.
A little research is better than an expensive disappointment!

📸 You're excited about your vacation! You've checked in, found your gate, and want to share your boarding pass on Facebook.

STOP! Before you post, here's something to consider.

But that barcode holds a lot more than your seat: your full name, your frequent flyer number, and your booking code, which is the key for someone to get into your reservation. They can change or cancel your flight, can get into your miles and they can send you emails that look exactly like they came from the airline, with your real flight number and your real dates in them, asking you to confirm your card. There are free websites that will read that barcode off a screenshot in seconds. Covering your name with your thumb doesn't help one bit. The barcode still has everything about you. Your boarding pass can contain personal travel information, and its barcode may reveal booking details that you don't want strangers to access.

Here's how to share your excitement more safely:
🔒 Don't post a clear image of your boarding pass or barcode.
📱 Keep your booking reference and frequent-flyer information private.
🗑️ Take your printed boarding pass with you and dispose of it securely.
🏡 Think twice before publicly announcing that your home will be empty for two weeks.

🌴 Instead, share a beautiful photo of your destination, a sunset from your balcony, or a delicious meal.

You can share your travel memories without exposing your personal information!

Nobody walks into an airport thinking about hackers. You're thinking my phone is at 8% and I've got a nine-hour flight.
The government is still warning travelers about this one. Public USB ports can be tampered with so that while your phone charges, someone is pulling data off it or putting something on it.

Here's a travel-security habit worth adopting: Bring your own wall charger and cable.
Public USB ports can potentially expose connected devices to security risks. This risk isn't a reason to panic, but a little prevention is easy.
Here's how to prepare:
🔌 Pack your own wall plug and charge from a regular electrical outlet.
🔋 Carry a power bank that complies with your airline's battery rules.
📱 Keep your phone updated and pay attention to unexpected connection prompts.

🚨 This tip is about your safety, your belongings, and protecting yourself from unnecessary trouble.

You're waiting at the gate and need to use the restroom. The person sitting beside you seems friendly, so you ask them to watch your suitcase.

It's an understandable request—but the safer option is to keep your belongings with you or ask a trusted travel companion to stay with them.
🧳 Never leave your luggage unattended. An unattended bag may trigger a security response and cause disruption.
📦 Never agree to carry a stranger's bag or package through an airport or across a border. Even if someone seems perfectly nice, you cannot be certain what you're transporting.
If you're traveling with a companion, take turns stepping away from the bags.
If someone asks you to carry something, it's perfectly acceptable to say, “I'm sorry, I can't do that.”
You don't need to feel guilty about putting your safety first.
