I’ve had clients do both, and it usually comes down to this:

👉 Do you want to figure it out… or just show up and experience it?

Planning it yourself gives you flexibility—but it takes more time and energy while you’re there.

Guided trips take that off your plate—but you’re following a set plan.

What I’ve seen over the years is people are usually much happier once they pick the option that actually matches how they like to travel—not just what sounds like the best deal.

This is something I talk through with clients a lot.

Europe is incredible—but it does not feel like an all-inclusive vacation.

You’re not in one place.
You’re moving more.
There’s a bit more structure to your days (even on guided trips).

And if you go into it expecting that same “relax and everything is handled” feeling… it can catch you off guard.

But my clients who know what to expect going in?
They usually end up loving Europe for completely different reasons.

It’s more about the experience, the places, and everything you get to see—not just the resort itself.

It’s usually this:

You booked something that looked good…
not something that actually fit you.

Wrong pace.
Wrong setup.
Wrong expectations.

So instead of relaxing, you’re adjusting the whole time.

That’s the part people don’t think about when they’re looking on their own.

Because honestly… a lot of them can start to look the same online.

Same destinations, similar prices, same “this looks nice” feeling.

But once you’re actually on the ship?
Totally different experience.

So when I’m helping clients, I’m not just asking where do you want to go?

I’m asking things like:
👉 Do you want more relaxing… or more going on?
👉 Are you excited about the ship itself, or the ports?
👉 What would actually make the trip feel worth it to you?

That’s usually where things start to click—and we narrow it down pretty quickly.

I think a lot of people assume a cruise is a cruise… but these two experiences couldn’t be more different.

👉 If you’re looking for more of a floating resort, ocean is usually the way to go.
If you want to feel like you’re actually in the destination, river tends to win every time.
