Ruby-throated hummingbirds are all over the Sullivan Catskills right now. If you sit still long enough near a fuchsia or bee balm, you’ll see one hover in, drink & disappear before you can point it out to whoever’s next to you.

They’re the only hummingbird that breeds here in the east & they come to the Catskills every spring after flying nonstop across the Gulf of Mexico.

If you want more of them around:
• sugar water in a feeder works (1 part sugar, 4 parts water, skip the red dye)
• tubular flowers like trumpet vine & fuchsia are their thing
• go easy on pesticides so the tiny insects they also eat stick around

The 20th Annual Livingston Manor Trout Parade is this Saturday, June 13! This year’s theme is “Cirque du Trout” so expect wild costumes, creative floats & a full day of fun on Main Street.

The Vendor Fair opens at 10 AM at Renaissance Park with live music all morning. The parade kicks off at 1 PM & wraps up with an after-party at Sunshine Colony. All proceeds support local food pantries & the school’s music program. See you in Livingston Manor!

A friendly reminder that the pollinators are hard at work across the Sullivan Catskills right now. Here are a few ways to appreciate & protect them ⬇️

• stick to marked trails when hiking
• skip picking wildflowers (the bees need them more)
• & if you’re inspired to start a garden back home, plant native flowers like wild roses, bee balm & clover

The 30th Annual Callicoon Tractor Parade is next Sunday, June 14! The parade kicks off at noon on Lower Main Street. After the parade, head to the Delaware Youth Center grounds for a BBQ & plan on checking out the businesses in town & the farmers market.

Want to enter your tractor? Registration opens at 8 AM at the DYC. No fee, but donations to help put on the event are always appreciated. See you in Callicoon!

• Mongaup Valley WMA, Rio Reservoir (Rt. 42)
• Swinging Bridge Reservoir, Bethel
• Barryville Eagle Observation Area, Rt. 97
• Minisink Ford Eagle Observation Area, near the Roebling Bridge
• Delaware River corridor
