Paddling Past a Rare River Beauty!

Did you know the beautiful white flowers blooming right now along the shallows of the Ashley River are actually quite rare? These are Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies (Hymenocallis coronaria), a native species that only grows in a few select river systems across the Southeast!

Here is what makes these stunning plants so unique:
River Specialists: They only grow in swift-moving, shallow river currents where their roots can anchor tightly to exposed rocks.

The Look: They feature large, bright white blossoms with elegant, spider-like legs and a delicate vanilla scent.

Short Bloom Window: They typically burst into bloom from early May to late June, making a sighting very special!

A Hidden Danger: While gorgeous, they are highly toxic. The plant contains lycorine, which can make humans and pets severely ill if ingested.

Admire them, take plenty of photos from your kayak, but leave them undisturbed so they can keep thriving on our beautiful river!

Morning Magic on the Water!

Last weekend's sunrise tour was absolute perfection. We witnessed a rare, breathtaking sight: small "water tornadoes" spinning across the river! This beautiful phenomenon happens when early morning sunlight breaks through the dense tree canopy, heating up tiny patches of cool river fog and causing the misty air to spin. Nature really put on a show for us!

We were also thrilled to celebrate a very special birthday on the water with an amazing group of five ladies. What a memorable way to ring in a new year!
