TODAY IN EL PASO: A federal judge issued an injunction stopping border wall work across the Big Bend Sector.

🛑 WORK STOPS — pending further court action.

The fight is NOT over, but this is a major development for everyone who has been working to protect Big Bend, the Rio Grande, our communities, wildlife, public lands, and the outdoor recreation economy that depends on this incredible place.

Terrell County just voted to move forward with a lease to Fisher Sand & Gravel for 20 acres inside the county airport property.

At today’s Commissioners Court meeting, officials declined to hear an alternative proposal with a maximum potential value of $3.8 MILLION over 20 years.

That figure is a potential value, not guaranteed revenue. But shouldn’t commissioners hear the full proposal before deciding the future of airport land?

This decision could shape the airport—and tourism and outdoor recreation across Big Bend—for years to come. What do you think Terrell County should do next?

BIG BEND UPDATE | 9.23.26 🏜️
Three major developments in the ongoing effort to protect Big Bend and the surrounding communities:
1️⃣ JEFF DAVIS COUNTY: Commissioners tabled Barnard Construction’s special-use road permit request.
2️⃣ TERRELL COUNTY: Officials are considering leasing part of the Terrell County Airport to Fisher Sand & Gravel for a construction staging area and temporary worker housing, commonly called a “man camp.”
3️⃣ BIG BEND 1: Reporters documenting border barrier construction say a private citizen, Steven Rountree, who claimed to work for Barnard Construction, blocked the road and prevented them from leaving for hours. Serious questions remain about what authority, if any, he had to restrict their movement

Big Bend’s future, public access, local communities and press freedom remain at the center of these developments.
