If a Seine River cruise is on your travel wish list, there’s an especially good reason to add a little extra time in Paris right now. 🇫🇷

The Musée de l’Orangerie has just opened “Monet, Painting Time,” a special exhibition marking 100 years since Claude Monet’s death.

Nearly 40 paintings explore how Monet captured changing light and time, including works from his famous Haystacks, Poplars, Morning on the Seine and Rouen Cathedral series.

And while you’re there, you can experience his magnificent Water Lilies in the museum’s oval rooms.

I love the idea of pairing this with a Seine River cruise. You can travel through landscapes that inspired Monet, visit his home and gardens at Giverny, and then see his paintings in Paris. There’s even a special VR experience, “Claude Monet Along the Water,” that follows the Seine through Monet’s world to Giverny.

The exhibition runs through January 25, 2027—a wonderful excuse for a few extra days in Paris before or after a Seine sailing.

For an art lover, I think this would be a pretty unforgettable way to experience France.

THE BIGGEST SURPRISE FROM MY FIRST RIVER CRUISE:

I’ll be honest… I didn’t know what to expect the first time I took a river cruise.

I thought I might miss the energy of a big ship.

But the biggest surprise?

How easy everything felt.

2030 may sound like a long way off, but some trips really do need to be planned years in advance.

Viking has opened reservations for its special 2030 river cruise itineraries featuring the Oberammergau Passion Play in Germany. And this is one of those experiences where booking early makes a lot of sense.

The Passion Play is performed only once every ten years in the small Bavarian village of Oberammergau. The tradition dates back to 1633, when villagers made a vow during the plague to perform the story of Christ if their village was spared. Nearly 400 years later, that promise continues.

For 2030, Viking has created several itineraries that combine a European river cruise with time in Oberammergau, and admission to the Passion Play is included. One itinerary travels along the Danube from Budapest before continuing to Oberammergau and Munich, while others combine the Passion Play with Salzburg or a Rhine River cruise.

And here's what really caught my attention: Viking is currently offering a $25 per person deposit on these 2030 sailings.

There’s a moment on a Danube River cruise that people don’t always expect—but it ends up being one of the most unforgettable parts of the entire trip.

Sailing through the Iron Gates Gorge.

This is where the river narrows and winds its way between towering cliffs along the border of Serbia and Romania. It’s quiet, dramatic, and honestly…just beautiful in a way that’s hard to explain until you see it for yourself.

No rushing. No crowds. Just sitting back, watching the scenery unfold around you.

It’s one of those experiences I’ve been really looking forward to—and I finally get to see it for myself this summer.

A True Bucket-List Journey 🌏

Some trips are about seeing famous places. Others give you the opportunity to experience a completely different part of the world and its culture.

That’s what I love about this journey through Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.

Yes, you’ll see incredible places like Ha Long Bay, Angkor Wat, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok. But it’s the experiences in between that make this itinerary so special. You’ll travel through small villages along the Mekong, meet local families and craftspeople, visit markets, learn about traditions and religions, taste regional foods, and see what everyday life looks like in communities far removed from our own.

And spending seven nights cruising the Mekong River aboard the Avalon Saigon allows you to experience Southeast Asia from a completely different perspective.

This is the kind of travel I think a bucket list should be about. Not simply seeing somewhere new, but coming home with a better understanding of the people, food, history and culture that make it unique.

Europe has a way of doing this to you. 🇫🇷

You go once…and suddenly you’re thinking about where you’ll go next.

Maybe it’s Paris. Maybe it’s Amsterdam, Budapest or Vienna. Maybe it’s discovering the smaller towns and villages along Europe’s rivers that you’d probably never experience quite the same way on your own.

After traveling throughout Europe and sailing many of its rivers, I can tell you: I’m still nowhere near finished.

There’s always another place I want to see, another river I want to sail and another reason to go back.

Apparently, Europe really is a lifelong commitment. And I’m perfectly fine with that.

I still remember the first time I stepped into a Panorama Suite on the Rhine.

At first glance, it feels like a beautiful hotel room. But then you notice the entire wall of windows… and suddenly, the river becomes part of your room.

In a Panorama Suite with Avalon, the bed faces the water. Not the wall. Not a television. The river. So when you wake up in the morning, the first thing you see might be vineyards, castles, or a quiet village slowly coming to life along the shore.

And along the Rhine, that view is constantly changing — from Amsterdam’s historic canals to Germany’s castle-lined gorge, and onward to the charming towns of France and Switzerland.
