I spent 28 years surrounded by flowers.

Every Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, wedding, funeral, and anniversary brought a different story through the doors of my flower shop.

Back then, I never imagined that one day I’d be helping people travel to see fields of flowers halfway around the world.

Life has a funny way of connecting chapters.

When I first learned about the tulip fields of the Netherlands, it felt like one of those places I’d love to see “someday.”

Now that trip is finally becoming reality.

It’s a reminder that some dreams don’t have expiration dates.

Sometimes “someday” just needs a date on the calendar. 🌷

When most people think about this itinerary, they immediately think of the tulips.

And yes, they’re spectacular.

But what excites me just as much are the places in between.

Amsterdam’s canals and cafés. The modern architecture of Rotterdam. The history of Antwerp. The medieval charm of Ghent. The smaller Dutch towns that many travelers have never even heard of, yet often end up being their favorite stops.

What I love about river cruising is that it allows you to experience these places at a slower pace. You’re not rushing from hotel to hotel or spending hours on motorcoaches. You unpack once, settle in, and wake up somewhere new each morning.

Fewer crowds. Fewer lines. Less stress.

Just beautiful cities, fascinating history, wonderful food, and the simple joy of watching Europe drift by your window.

That’s the part of this journey I think people underestimate.

The tulips may get all the attention, but they’re only one chapter of the story. 🌷

There’s something special about seeing Europe from the water, especially when some of the world’s most famous wine regions are right outside your window.

From the vineyards of France to the scenic valleys along the Rhine and Danube, wine river cruises combine beautiful scenery, fascinating history, incredible food, and unforgettable wines. No unpacking every night. No rushing from hotel to hotel. Just relaxing days, charming towns, and a glass of local wine waiting at the end of your adventure.

After experiencing river cruising myself, I completely understand why so many travelers fall in love with it.

Standing among the crosses at the American Cemetery in Normandy is something I’ll never forget. Row after row, perfectly lined, overlooking the cliffs and beaches where so many gave their lives for freedom.

It’s impossible not to feel emotional there. Every marker represents someone’s son, brother, husband, or friend who never made it home. The peace and beauty of the cemetery today stand in such contrast to what happened there decades ago.

On Memorial Day, I’m especially grateful for those sacrifices and for the families who carried those losses long after the war ended. 🇺🇸

One of the things I really appreciate about sailing with Holland America Line is the focus they put on food and regional flavors.

Their Global Fresh Fish program brings more than 80 varieties of fish onboard from ports all over the world, often going from port to plate in less than 48 hours. You can truly taste the difference.

I also love how their Destination Dining experiences reflect the places you’re visiting. Local ingredients and regional dishes help make the journey feel even more immersive. It’s not just about seeing a destination… it’s about tasting it too.

And for food lovers, Holland America partners with Culinary Ambassadors like Chef Morimoto and Ethan Stowell to create some really memorable dishes onboard.

It’s little details like this that make cruising feel so special to me.

With hurricane season right around the corner, I wanted to share an important travel tip that many travelers don’t realize until it’s too late.

Travel insurance works best when it’s purchased early.

One of the biggest reasons I recommend protecting your trip at the time of deposit is because insurance is designed to cover unexpected events. Once a hurricane has been officially named, it becomes a “foreseen event,” which can limit coverage related to that storm.

That means waiting until a storm is developing in the Caribbean or Gulf may be too late to fully protect your vacation investment.

I personally purchase travel protection for my own trips because travel is a major investment, and I’ve seen firsthand how quickly unexpected situations can happen.

Travel insurance isn’t just about trip cancellation either. It can also help with things like travel delays, interruptions, medical emergencies, and more.

None of us can control the weather, but we can prepare for it a little better.

After sailing three Avalon itineraries already, with two more booked for the future, I can honestly say I’ve fallen in love with the experience. River cruising is wonderful on its own, but Avalon just seems to understand the little things that make a trip feel comfortable, relaxing, and genuinely special.

Their Panorama Suites were one of the first things that caught my attention years ago. Instead of a small balcony you barely use, the entire wall of windows opens up the room to the river. Watching castles, vineyards, villages, and countryside drift by from the comfort of your suite never gets old. It honestly makes the ship feel connected to the destination in a way I haven’t experienced anywhere else.

Life onboard feels easy in the best possible way. There’s no rush. No long lines. No crowds fighting for space. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and welcoming from the moment you step onboard. The lounges are comfortable, the ships are beautifully designed, and the crew somehow remembers your name almost immediately.

And then there’s the food. Fresh ingredients, regional dishes, wonderful desserts, good wine at lunch and dinner, and one of my favorite touches...daily happy hour before dinner. It feels social without ever feeling overwhelming.

What I appreciate most is how Avalon makes travel feel uncomplicated. Excursions are included, the ships are small enough to dock right in the heart of many cities and towns, and unpacking once while Europe glides past your window is still one of my favorite ways to travel.

Avalon feels like home on the water now. And honestly, I’m already looking forward to the next one...I'll be sailing the lower Danube in July that begins with a visit to Bucharest & Transylvania. I cannot wait.

I’m convinced that Holland America’s “Cake Me Away” display should come with a warning label… because resisting these desserts is nearly impossible.

Beautiful layers, rich flavors, and cakes that honestly look like edible artwork. It’s one of those little onboard moments that surprises people the first time they experience it.

Cruises are about so much more than the destinations. Sometimes it’s the unexpected things — like wandering into the buffet and finding an entire cake showcase waiting for you. 🍰

☘️ Ireland has a way of getting under your skin in the best possible way.

This one is definitely on my Bucket List:

Globus’ Irish Escape is a wonderful introduction to the Emerald Isle, especially for travelers looking for great value and a more relaxed experience during the quieter season.

This 7-day tour begins and ends in Dublin, with overnight stays in Ennis, Killarney, and Waterford along the way. Travelers will experience some of Ireland’s most beautiful scenery, including the Cliffs of Moher and the famous Ring of Kerry, while enjoying charming towns, cozy pubs, and warm Irish hospitality. 🇮🇪

✨ 7 Days | Dublin Roundtrip
✨ Starting at $1,739 per person*

If Ireland has been sitting on your bucket list, this could be the perfect time to finally experience it. ☘️

One of my favorite things about Europe at Christmas is how different every city feels this time of year. Twinkling lights, festive markets, warm drinks, old churches, historic squares…there’s just something magical about it all.

Globus just released a brand new Baltic Christmas Markets Escape for 2026, and I think this itinerary looks incredible. In just one week, you’ll experience the holiday traditions of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia while exploring the beautiful old towns of Vilnius, Riga, and Tallinn.

This isn’t the kind of trip that feels rushed or overly touristy. It’s more about soaking in the atmosphere…walking through cobblestone streets lined with Christmas stalls, tasting seasonal treats, shopping for handmade gifts, and enjoying Europe during one of the prettiest times of year.

Some highlights include:
• Christmas markets in all three capitals
• Guided sightseeing throughout the trip
• UNESCO-listed old towns dressed up for the holidays
• A visit to Tallinn’s beautiful Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
• Plenty of festive scenery and local traditions along the way

Pricing currently begins at $1,699 per person, and some departures even have the single supplement waived, which is a fantastic value for solo travelers. Deposits are just $250 per person to reserve space.

Christmas market trips have become extremely popular over the last few years, especially the smaller and more unique itineraries like this one. I have a feeling this one is going to sell very well.
