After sailing three Avalon itineraries already, with two more booked for the future, I can honestly say I’ve fallen in love with the experience. River cruising is wonderful on its own, but Avalon just seems to understand the little things that make a trip feel comfortable, relaxing, and genuinely special.
Their Panorama Suites were one of the first things that caught my attention years ago. Instead of a small balcony you barely use, the entire wall of windows opens up the room to the river. Watching castles, vineyards, villages, and countryside drift by from the comfort of your suite never gets old. It honestly makes the ship feel connected to the destination in a way I haven’t experienced anywhere else.
Life onboard feels easy in the best possible way. There’s no rush. No long lines. No crowds fighting for space. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and welcoming from the moment you step onboard. The lounges are comfortable, the ships are beautifully designed, and the crew somehow remembers your name almost immediately.
And then there’s the food. Fresh ingredients, regional dishes, wonderful desserts, good wine at lunch and dinner, and one of my favorite touches...daily happy hour before dinner. It feels social without ever feeling overwhelming.
What I appreciate most is how Avalon makes travel feel uncomplicated. Excursions are included, the ships are small enough to dock right in the heart of many cities and towns, and unpacking once while Europe glides past your window is still one of my favorite ways to travel.
Avalon feels like home on the water now. And honestly, I’m already looking forward to the next one...I'll be sailing the lower Danube in July that begins with a visit to Bucharest & Transylvania. I cannot wait.
