Boost Your Foot Traffic & Support Local Literacy with "One Book, One School"!
Dear Chamber Members,
Spring is officially here, and as our community heads outdoors, we have a fantastic opportunity for your business to welcome local families through your doors! The Westmont Chamber of Commerce is proud to support Westmont School District 60’s "One Book, One School" program, and we are looking for 30 local businesses to help make it a success.
The Inspiration: Flat Stanley’s Westmont Adventure
For those unfamiliar with the classic story, Flat Stanley follows a young boy who is flattened thin enough to be mailed in an envelope, allowing him to travel the world on amazing adventures.
In our local twist, 500 students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade—all living in the greater Westmont area—will create their own "Flat Stanleys" and take them on a traveling adventure right here in town! Each student will carry a physical "Passport" (printed by PostNet) and will visit participating local businesses to receive a stamp.
Why Participate?
Targeted Foot Traffic: Engage with approximately 500 local students and their families as they look to fill their passports.
Social Media Buzz: This is a perfect photo op! We encourage businesses to take photos of "Flat Stanley" visiting your shop to share on your social media pages.
Note: If students are included in your photos, please ensure you obtain signed parental permission before posting.
Community Spirit: Your involvement helps foster a love of reading across the entire district and helps connect children and families to our neighborhood.
The Logistics
Limited Availability: We are looking for 30 local businesses to serve as official passport stops.
Store Hours: To accommodate family schedules, participating businesses should have regular retail hours on the weekends.
Kickoff: The program begins May 4th and will run for 2 weeks!.
Participation Fee: A $40 fee helps the Maercker District 60 PTO provide books, materials, and a Stanley Passport for every student.
Raffle Prizes: We are also seeking donations of prizes for a raffle held at the conclusion of the program to celebrate the students' reading achievements.
Coordination: While the Chamber is supporting this initiative, the program is being coordinated by Joe Jovanovich of PostNet.
How to Join
To ensure your business is included on the student passports, please contact Joe Jovanovich directly to confirm your participation. Space is limited to the first 30 respondents!
