Fun fact: Mombasa has been an important Indian Ocean trading centre for centuries, with historic trade links stretching as far as India and China.

Our students spent some time at Forodhani in Mombasa’s Old Town, enjoying the seafront, local food, and the atmosphere of one of the city’s most historic areas.

The Go-Elective experience is also about discovering the places, people, and culture around you.

Meet Buse Altunbağ on the left, from Rüzgar Anatolian High School in Türkiye. 🇹🇷

You may remember Buse as the winner of the GoAbroad.com Kenya Giveaway, which gave her the opportunity to join us for a Go-Elective pre-med program.

Oh, and there's more! Her passion for science extends far beyond medicine. In 2025, Buse was selected as a Global Nominee in the NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration International Space Apps Challenge.

She also won the high-school category of the International Neuroethics Essay Contest for her essay exploring the ethics of consciousness in brain organoids. How cool is that? 🚀🧠

We'll soon be sharing Buse's firsthand experience with Go-Elective.

❤️ A Go-Elective experience extends beyond the hospital.

While clinical learning is at the heart of our programs, becoming a great healthcare professional also means developing empathy, cultural understanding, and meaningful human connections.

Our students spent an afternoon at a local children’s home, playing games, sharing stories, and laughing together.

Sometimes, the most valuable lessons aren't learned in a textbook or on a hospital ward, but through moments of kindness, humility, and human connection.

That's the Go-Elective experience.

Hands-on learning goes beyond the bedside🧠

Our students joined a consultant neurosurgeon for an interactive review of brain imaging, gaining valuable insight into clinical decision-making in an actual hospital setting.

Did you know? Across many African hospitals, neurosurgeons often manage a high volume of trauma, stroke, hydrocephalus, brain tumors, and spinal conditions, giving students exposure to a wide range of neurological pathology in a relatively short period.

Observing these cases helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world clinical practice.

What an incredible month June was! 🇰🇪🩺

We were thrilled to welcome students from Mississippi State University, University at Buffalo, Universität Zürich, and Iowa State University to Mombasa, Kenya for an incredible clinical internship experience with Go-Elective.

Over the past few weeks, they explored global health working alongside local healthcare professionals, and created memories we hope will last a lifetime.

We'll be sharing some of our favorite moments from their journey.
