BÚN CHẢ – THE ICONIC DISH OF HANOI

When talking about Hanoi cuisine, bún chả is a must-try. Recently recognized by the Michelin Guide as a culinary symbol of the capital, this dish stands out not only for its signature flavors but also for its meticulous preparation.
What makes bún chả special is the perfect combination of smoky grilled pork, soft rice vermicelli, and flavorful dipping sauce. The grilled pork consists of pork patties and pork slices, carefully marinated and grilled over charcoal, creating a crispy, fragrant exterior while keeping the meat juicy and tender. The dipping sauce – the soul of the dish – is skillfully balanced with fish sauce, sugar, vinegar, and water, delivering a harmonious blend of sweet, sour, and umami flavors.
Bún chả gained global fame when former U.S. President Barack Obama enjoyed it in Hanoi in 2016. If you visit the city, don't miss the chance to try bún chả at Hương Liên, Đắc Kim, or Bún Chả Ta, and experience the full essence of this legendary Vietnamese dish

The Traditional Conical Hat Craft Village in Hanoi
Hanoi is not only famous for its ancient 36 streets but also for preserving many traditional craft villages, including the art of making conical hats. One of the most renowned villages is Chuong Village, located in Thanh Oai District, about 30 km south of Hanoi.

History of Chuong Village
With a history dating back hundreds of years, Chuong Village has long been known for its craftsmanship in making conical hats. These hats are not only practical for shielding from the sun and rain but also hold deep cultural value, symbolizing the elegance of Vietnamese women. The craft flourished during the Nguyen Dynasty and has been preserved to this day.

The Process of Making a Conical Hat
1. Selecting the leaves: Palm leaves are harvested from mountainous areas, dried under the sun, and carefully processed to achieve the perfect texture.
2. Shaping the frame: Thin bamboo strips are bent into a conical shape to form the base structure.
3. Layering and stitching: The palm leaves are layered and stitched together using nylon or silk threads to ensure durability.
4. Finishing touches: The hat can be decorated with artistic details such as lotus patterns, calligraphy, or silk ribbons for a refined look.
