Cape Town to Durban – by heli? Yes, really!

Yesterday, our friends at Cape Town Helicopters pulled off something extraordinary — flying their sleek Airbus AS-365 helicopter (aka The Dauphin) over 1,270km from their hangar at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town all the way to Virginia Airport in Durban, just to treat some of our New Frontiers team to an unforgettable evening and day out over the KZN coastline.

This twin-engine beauty, with space for 8 passengers and 2 pilots, made a scenic sunrise departure, refuelled in George, and cruised up the coast to Durban — all in smooth, signature style.

30 lucky team members boarded a coach at the crack of dawn, coffee in hand, for their turn to take to the skies on a series of 15-minute flips, soaking up sweeping views of KwaZulu-Natal from above. A serious pinch-me moment!

A massive thank you to the incredible team at Cape Town Helicopters for this wildly generous spoil. It was a day we won’t soon forget. 💛

Mandela Day 2025 | 67 Minutes of Heart, Hustle & Humanity

This Mandela Day, the New Frontiers Tours crew stepped out of the office and into the community — spreading kindness and rolling up our sleeves for three unforgettable initiatives that filled our hearts and reminded us what it’s all about.

Packing with Purpose at FoodForward SA:

At the Durban ICC, we joined FoodForward SA’s massive food-packing mission. We helped pack and label hundreds of food parcels — all marked “Not for Sale” to make sure they land in the hands of those who truly need them. No frills, just impact. A small act for us, but a huge step toward fighting hunger.

Soccer, Smiles & Serious Joy at Ingane Yami:

We laced up our boots and hit the field for a Mandela Day soccer tournament with the inspiring kids of Ingane Yami Children’s Village. We brought along soccer balls, snacks, colouring books (and maybe a few soft passes), and left with full hearts. Final score: Opponents 6, New Frontiers 0 — but who’s counting? The real win was the laughter, connection, and those priceless high-fives.

Comfort & Connection at Graceland Nursing Home:

We ended the day by visiting Graceland Nursing Home, arms full of soft pillows, biscuits, toiletries, and warm bedding. We shared stories, hugs, and lots of smiles with the residents — including a few centenarians who reminded us what resilience and grace really look like. The staff’s care and dedication left us inspired beyond words.

This Mandela Day reminded us that small actions, done with big hearts, truly matter. Here’s to showing up, giving back, and walking the talk — today and every day.

We’re so excited to be working with Hugh Fraser – a passionate explorer with a serious case of wanderlust. From far-flung adventures across the globe to the vibrant streets of his hometown, Johannesburg, Hugh brings stories to life wherever he goes.
