As the sun set, the desert exploded into colour. 🔥

Then… darkness.

There are places you visit… and then there are places that stop you in your tracks.

Today, I discovered Petra for the first time.

And honestly… photographs don’t prepare you for this.

You walk through the narrow Siq, surrounded by towering walls of rose-coloured sandstone. With every step, the anticipation builds. You can’t quite see what lies ahead — only a sliver of light, a glimpse of something impossibly ancient.

And then…

Petra reveals herself.

The Treasury appears at the end of the canyon like a scene from another world.

For a moment, you simply stand there.

No words.

Just awe.

More than 2,000 years ago, the Nabataeans carved this extraordinary city directly into the mountains — creating a thriving civilisation at the crossroads of some of the ancient world’s greatest trading routes.

And yet, standing here today, it doesn’t feel like you’re looking at history.

It feels like history is looking back at you.

The scale.
The colour.
The silence.
The sheer human ambition it must have taken to create this place.

Petra isn’t simply something you see.

It’s something you feel.

And as I stood there, looking up at the Treasury, I realised something…

There are moments in travel when you don’t need to take another photograph.

You just need to stand still…

…and let the moment become part of you.

Petra.

I’ve waited a long time to see you.

You were worth every step. ❤️🇯🇴

From the heights of Mt Nebo to the ancient wonder of Petra 🇯🇴✨

Today we left Mt Nebo behind and travelled towards Petra, but the journey itself brought us to one of the most fascinating places we’ve experienced in Jordan — the Old Village Resort.

What makes this hotel so extraordinary isn’t just where it is, but what it once was.

Imagine an old stone village, its homes weathered by time, narrow lanes winding between buildings, generations of stories held within the thick stone walls… and then imagine someone looking at those ruins and seeing possibility rather than decay.

The old houses have been painstakingly brought back to life, with their original stonework, arches, doorways and village character carefully preserved. Where families once lived, worked and gathered, there are now beautiful rooms, restaurants and inviting spaces for travellers. What could have been lost to time has instead been given an entirely new chapter.

Walking through the hotel, you can still feel the soul of the old village. Every stone seems to tell a story, and every winding pathway leads to another little piece of its past. It’s not a hotel that simply looks historic — the history is the hotel.

It’s a wonderful reminder that sometimes the most beautiful new beginnings come from breathing life back into what already exists. ❤️

🇯🇴 From Amman to Madaba — and deeper into Jordan’s ancient heart

We’ve left the lively streets of Amman behind and travelled to Madaba, a town where history seems to rise from every stone. In the warm Jordanian light, ancient churches, quiet lanes and intricate Byzantine mosaics tell stories of faith, artistry and generations past.

At St George’s Church, we stood before the remarkable 6th-century Madaba Map, its tiny coloured stones carefully arranged to reveal one of the oldest surviving maps of the Holy Land. It was a moving reminder of how deeply this land has been connected to pilgrimage, devotion and discovery for centuries.

From there, we continued to Mount Nebo, where the air felt still and expansive beneath the open sky. Looking across the Jordan Valley towards the distant hills, it was easy to understand why this place has inspired such profound spiritual reflection. Here, Moses is believed to have looked upon the Promised Land before his death—a view that remains both humbling and unforgettable.

Our journey also brought us to a local mosaic workshop, where the gentle tap of tools and the vivid colours of stone brought Jordan’s ancient craft to life. Established with royal support, the workshop helps preserve this treasured tradition while providing valuable income and opportunities for local people. Each mosaic is more than a work of art; it carries the patience, skill and hopes of the community that creates it.

🇯🇴 Madaba and Mount Nebo offered us more than beautiful sights. They gave us a deeper connection to Jordan’s faith, history, craftsmanship and people—a place you don’t simply visit, but feel and remember.
