Elephants dust-bathe for survival, not just fun.
They throw dirt, sand, or dust over themselves (often after water or mud) to:
• Block UV rays like natural sunscreen
• Stay cooler in the heat
• Keep flies, ticks, and parasites off
• Protect and condition sensitive skin

4 Awesome groups, 13000+ km’s later and a whole lot of educational fun was enjoyed over the last 3 months but now it is time to head home and back to my beloved Kruger National Park. Martial Eagles in KNP - Africa’s largest eagle rules the Kruger skies with massive territories averaging 108 km² per pair (about the size of a small town!).
These powerful hunters soar high, spotting prey from up to 6 km away, then dive in a high-speed stoop (up to 230 km/h) to strike with deadly talons.
They mainly hunt from the air but also ambush from perches — taking everything from guineafowl and monitor lizards to young antelope.
Kruger holds around 100 breeding pairs, but even this vast park has limited space for these wide-ranging apex predators.
Protecting their huge home ranges is key to their survival.
