Hidden in the hills above Wilderness lies one of the Garden Route’s most unique natural wonders the famous Map of Africa viewpoint.

This remarkable viewpoint gets its name from the natural shape formed by the winding Kaaimans River valley below, which closely resembles the outline of the African continent when viewed from above. Unlike many landmarks, this is not a man-made attraction but a naturally formed landscape that has become one of the most photographed stops along the Garden Route.

Located near Map of Africa in Wilderness Heights, the viewpoint offers breathtaking views of forests, mountains, rivers, and coastline all in one location. It has also become a popular launch site for paragliders, adding even more excitement to this scenic destination.

Today, visitors travel from around the world to experience this iconic viewpoint, capture unforgettable photos, and enjoy one of the Garden Route’s most spectacular panoramas.

🌅 A Brief History of Margaret’s Viewpoint, Knysna 🌅

One of the most breathtaking viewpoints along the Garden Route, Margaret’s Viewpoint offers panoramic views over the Knysna Lagoon, Leisure Island, The Heads, and the surrounding Outeniqua Mountains.

Located on the scenic road between Knysna and Brenton-on-Sea, the viewpoint was named after local conservationist and historian Margaret Addinal, who played an important role in promoting and preserving the natural beauty of the area. Her efforts helped establish the viewpoint as a place where both locals and visitors could stop and appreciate the incredible scenery of Knysna.

Today, Margaret’s Viewpoint remains one of the most popular photo stops on the Garden Route — especially at sunrise and sunset when the lagoon and mountains are covered in golden light.

⛰️ A Brief History of the Outeniqua Pass, George ⛰️

The famous Outeniqua Pass is one of South Africa’s most scenic mountain routes, connecting George on the Garden Route with Oudtshoorn and the Little Karoo.

The pass was built between 1942 and 1951 as a safer and more modern alternative to the old Montagu Pass, which had become too narrow and steep for increasing traffic. Construction through the rugged Outeniqua Mountains was a massive engineering project at the time, with parts of the road built using Italian prisoners of war during World War II.

The name “Outeniqua” comes from the Khoi people and is believed to mean “men carrying honey,” referring to the honey gatherers who once lived in the area.

Today, the Outeniqua Pass is known for its breathtaking mountain scenery, winding roads, waterfalls, and panoramic views over George and the coastline. It remains one of the most iconic drives in the Western Cape and a favourite route for travellers exploring the Garden Route.

🌻 A Little History of Jasmyn in Hartbeespoort 🌻

What started as a small family farm stall in the 1990s has grown into one of Hartbeespoort’s most loved attractions. Jasmyn was originally founded by the Erasmus family, who focused on selling fresh farm produce, baked goods, and homemade products directly to the public.

After relocating to Hartbeespoort in the early 2000s, Jasmyn expanded into the well-known destination we see today famous for its iconic windmill, fresh produce market, bakery, deli, restaurants, and local handmade goods.

Today, visitors from all over South Africa stop at Jasmyn to experience true farm-style hospitality, fresh local products, and the beautiful atmosphere of the Hartbeespoort area. A perfect stop for families, food lovers, and day visitors exploring Harties.

🌿 A favourite stop on many of our tours.
