If nature doesn't inspire you to get your camera or paint brushes out, you're truly missing out on an incredible treasure.

When animals are elusive for a while, and you find something as stunning as a Bateleur eagle perched and posing in a tree, it deserves more than just a glance. A true wildlife experience is about so much more than big furry animals.

On a freezing cold morning up at Letaba, this fella was trying to find some warmth in the early morning sunlight.

Me thinks that this Yellow-billed Hornbill was frozen to its perch... Oh yes, the Kruger National Park can deliver some icy cold winter days. (And freezing cold nights).

But what stunning, clear blue skies!

Raptors are breathtakingly amazing. Lords of the air, with eyesight as sharp as a tack and concentration as unwavering as a rock.

It's one of my favourite birds of prey, the magnificent Brown Snake Eagle. Master snake catcher and devourer of such, as well as having an appetite for chameleons and lizards.

Those piercing eyes and that formidable beak are truly impressive.

Next time you see one with its gaze fixed upon potential prey, watch how this bird doesn't blink. Instead, the nictating membranes sweep rapidly and horizontally across its eyes. Not only do they clean and moisturize the eyes, they do it one at a time like synchronized shutters, and it's fascinating to observe.

Sadly we are witnessing more and more unethical guiding. I support any drive to help eradicate this and to bring back respect for nature.

It was wonderful to gaze upon these beauties as the sunlight cast warmth on the greyness of the chilly start.

This was a fitting farewell to my guest.

Tomorrow I go back to Rhino Post, this time with the privilege of guiding for them for a week. I consider myself blessed.

Thank you Rhino Post Safari Lodge.

Sometimes you get presented with a different coloured backdrop, a new prop, and even more vivid colours as are true to the splendour of a roller's breeding hues. Just wow👌

As the Kruger Park's winter skies transform into a brilliant blue, a raw wood sculpture, honed by the forces of nature and time, is brought to life by the presence of a stunning bird, renowned as one of Southern Africa's most photographed species, leaving you no choice but to stop and marvel at the scene.

The iconic Lilac-breasted Roller makes up for its raucous vocals with its spectacular plumage and undeniably some of the most beautiful colours you could ever expect to see in the wild.

These images have not been edited and pay tribute to the master creator/artist of such breathtaking moments bestowed to us. I am forever in awe.

It's been a few years, my friend. I never thought I'd see you again. My heart sings to be fully back in the safari world after a long time of setbacks and struggles. I'm overjoyed to see you have made it through as well.

Like many of our colleagues in the industry, it has not been an easy time, and we give thanks to all those who've helped us get back on our feet. I, for one, hope to return the kindness and generosity one day and to pay blessings forward again like it used to be possible to do.

Mandla is one of the best tellers of bush stories in the Kruger. My eccentric, marvellous, big-hearted bush brother, how happy I am to see you looking so well. To find you thriving, smiling, and entertaining visitors to your picnic spot in the wild.

May God protect you and keep you safe and well for many years ahead. I hope it's not long before we meet again. You bring sunshine to the world.
