Twenty years ago today, my life changed in the best possible way.
I’d almost given up.
After 18 months of applications, rejections, skill building and being told “no”, I was desperate to become a travel agent but couldn’t seem to get a foot in the door.
At my 21st birthday, my dad made a speech. In it, he said he hoped I would find a career that gave me purpose and a lifetime of enjoyment.
A week later, he encouraged me to apply one more time.
So I did.
This time, I picked up the phone and called the recruiter directly. I introduced myself and explained everything I’d done since my last rejection to improve my chances.
She laughed and said, “Wow, you’re really not taking no for an answer. I love that you’re back.”
That phone call changed everything.
Twenty years later, I’m quite literally living the dream I had back then.
I’ve explored 55 countries, planned thousands of incredible holidays for wonderful clients, collected more funny travel stories than I can count, and had the privilege of being part of so many special memories.
As I write this, I’m travelling around the world with my husband and son while continuing to do the job I dreamed about all those years ago.
What a privilege that is.
To love what I do. To help people experience the world. To be trusted with journeys that often become some of life’s most treasured memories.
I never take that trust for granted.
To every client, colleague, supplier, mentor and friend who has been part of this journey, thank you.
And Dad, thank you for encouraging me to try just one more time.
Twenty years later, I’m so glad I did.
Here’s to the next twenty. ✈️❤️
