Black Mountain Golf club in Hua Hin, is one of my favourite courses in Thailand. I have had a love affair with it since it first opened and it just seems to fit my eye when playing it. Depending on the tee colours you play from, it can make you take on the high risk reward shot, or aim away from the trouble and play the hole sensibly. I have played it from the 61 tees and the 73 tees and while the scores range widely, I still walk off the course with a smile !!

Come and play Black Mountain as part of the Hua Hin Golf Week
October 2026 starts 18th or come in March 2027 starting 7th

Angkor Golf Resort is one of the courses that we play as part of the Siem Reap Golf Week starting 4 August

The world-class Faldo designed Angkor Golf Resort is the best golf course in Siem Reap and by a wide margin. The six-time major winner, Nick Faldo himself, received a blessing from local monks and then opened the golf course in December 2007, his first golf course in Cambodia. The Angkor Golf Resort brings Cambodia squarely onto international golf destination map.

Tees, fairways, and greens are all maintained as what you would expect from a Faldo designed, and managed the golf course. The latest Paspalum turf ensures excellent year-round playing conditions.

The course is a fair test of golf for all players and requires thinking and strategy on every hole to score well. For example, the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards are tricky, but easily seen from each tee box. The greens have plenty of subtle undulations, and they reward and encourage a variety of approach shots. On the other hand, each holes difficulty can be moderated daily by specific pin positions, easy or challenging. Furthermore, various tee box locations allow for both low and mid-handicappers to choose the right course length for their game.

The final three holes make up some of the most challenging, but fun, holes on the Angkor Resort golf course. The par-5 16th is a 588 monster that is probably not reachable in two shots except for very long hitters. The angle of the green together with the water on the left of the hole poses a real challenge for those wishing to get their approach shots close. A cautious lay-up, away from the hazard, on the second shot will leave a tough pitch over a deep bunker to a shallow green. Hole 17 is the longest par three on the course and plays to a green guarded by water on the right side. The back pin locations, in particular, will demand a very well hit accurate tee shot.

The 440 yard par-4 finishing hole is as good as they come and will undoubtedly lead to some dramatic finishes, a Faldo signature! The slight dogleg to the left sees water running down the left side affecting both the tee shot and the approach. The best tee shot must challenge the water on the left to open up into the green.

Thailand has fundamentally transformed its border security, moving from casual procedures to a high-scrutiny system. Under Section 12 of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522, officers now exercise broad discretion to deny entry. To ensure a smooth arrival, travelers must navigate these six critical areas:

1. Passport Standards: Your passport must be valid for at least six months and in pristine condition. Thai authorities are notoriously strict regarding water damage, torn pages, or "unofficial" souvenir stamps, any of which can lead to immediate deportation.

2. Physical Cash Requirement: Despite the digital age, you must carry 20,000 Baht per person (or 40,000 per family) in physical currency (THB, USD, EUR, etc.). Digital bank statements or credit cards are often rejected during secondary inspections as proof of "means of living."

3. End of Visa Runs: The era of perpetual tourist stays is over. Land entries are capped at two per calendar year. Those spending more than 180 days in Thailand on tourist stamps are flagged by algorithms for suspected illegal employment.

4. Proof of Onward Travel: A confirmed outbound ticket within your permitted stay is mandatory. Airlines will likely deny boarding at your origin if you cannot produce this documentation.

5. Strict Contraband Laws: E-cigarettes and vapes are strictly illegal, carrying heavy fines or imprisonment. Furthermore, following the re-criminalization of cannabis in 2025-2026, recreational use is prohibited, and foreign prescriptions are not recognized.

6. Travel History & Digital Checks: Officers now scrutinize "red flags" such as previous overstays or inconsistent itineraries. In 2026, authorities may even inspect devices for evidence of remote work (e.g., Slack or invoices) if you lack a proper work-authorized visa like the DTV.

Being denied entry leads to a harsh protocol: passport confiscation and detention in an Immigration Detention Center (IDC) until you can fund a last-minute flight back to your home country. To travel safely, treat entry as a conditional privilege come prepared with the right visa, physical cash, and impeccable documentation.

Our next group tour will start 7 June for the Danang 2BBB and Danang Invitational events

The highlight of the tour will be playing Hoiana Shores, an 18 hole, par-71 course which plays to 7,401 yards from the back tees. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, there are lovely views of the Eastern Sea and Cham Islands as you play your way around the golf course.

There is limited vegetation around the course, which is mostly made up of rolling dunes but there is enough rough around the fairway and greens to cause a problem if you leave the fairway. For those very wayward shots, there are dense bushes waiting to catch your ball on some holes and an escape from there is very difficult.
