I’m closely monitoring the current escalation of the conflict in parts of the Middle East and the resulting airspace disruptions.

Several countries in the region have introduced temporary airspace restrictions, which has led to short term flight cancellations and schedule adjustments across a number of carriers.

Some holidays are extra special… this one has been one of them.

I’ve been helping these clients plan their travels for so many years that they’ve become friends and after years of them asking me to join them on a holiday, I finally did. Sharing this Scenic Mekong River Cruise together has been such a highlight.

Travel is personal, it’s about people, connections and experiences. As a travel agent, I get to know my clients so well, and sometimes those relationships turn into friendships that last long after the after the holiday is over. 💛

Scenic Spirit – A Feast on the Mekong ✨🍴

The food onboard deserves a whole post of its own. Every meal is freshly prepared from scratch, with bread baked before each service and dishes that are as beautifully presented as they are delicious. The thought and care that goes into every plate really shines through.

The food and beverage team were fantastic, especially in looking after guests with dietary needs, nothing was ever too much trouble.

One of the highlights was our Cambodian street food day onboard. Let’s just say tarantulas, grasshoppers, baby frogs and silk worms were on the menu… but no, I wasn’t quite brave enough to try them! 😅

✨ Time to Farewell Scenic Spirit ✨

What a journey it’s been… ten unforgettable days of culture, connection and cruising in total comfort along the Mekong. From temples and tuk tuks to sunsets on the Sun Deck, every moment has been special.

Saying goodbye to Scenic Spirit isn’t easy, but I’m leaving with so many memories… and already dreaming about my next river cruise adventure.🌿

🚢 Scenic Spirit – Our Home on the Mekong
Scenic Spirit is more than just a ship, it’s a boutique floating hotel designed for exploring the Mekong in comfort and style.

✨ With just 34 spacious suites (all with their own sun lounge balcony), the ship carries a maximum of 68 guests. With 56 crew on board, the service feels warm, attentive and very personal.

🏖 Facilities include a pool and bar on the Pool Deck, a serene Sun Deck, a beautiful restaurant, spa, sauna, salon, fitness room, library, lounges and cafés. It’s been thoughtfully designed so there’s always a quiet corner to relax, as well as spaces to gather and socialise.

✨ Final full day on the Mekong ✨

Today’s adventure took me by sampan to Tan Phong Island, a tiny yet vibrant place rich in orchards and village life. We watched local artisans weave beautiful water hyacinth crafts and tasted fresh tropical fruits straight from the farm.

From there, we continued on to Cái Bè town, where we discovered the local cottage industry. Families here still make rice paper and sweets by hand, from popcorn to pop-rice to coconut candy, a fascinating glimpse into traditions that have been passed down for generations.

It was such a wonderful way to connect with everyday life along the river. Hard to believe this incredible journey is coming to an end… what a privilege it’s been. 💛

Arrived in Sa Dec by sampan this morning. 🇻🇳

We wandered through the buzzing wet markets, a full sensory adventure with everything from frogs and fish to flowers and spices. The colours, sounds and scents made it an experience I won’t forget. 🌸🐸

We also visited the grand home of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le, the Chinese merchant who inspired Marguerite Duras’ novel The Lover. It was fascinating to see the house and hear the story behind this famous tale of love and loss.

Another day along the Mekong filled with discovery, colour and culture. ✨

Vietnam has already welcomed us with colour, culture, and countless smiles. 🇻🇳

In Tân Châu, I hopped into a xe loi, a three-wheeled bicycle rickshaw introduced during the French colonial era and loved every minute of it. The ride was such fun, and the warmth from people along the streets, waving and smiling, makes it impossible not to smile back.

We visited the brightly coloured Cao Dai Temple, with its unique blend of Buddhist, Christian, Taoist, and Confucian traditions. The views of the temple from the water on our sampan ride were especially beautiful.

On Evergreen Island, we stepped into the traditional rhythms of rural life, meeting local farmers and getting a glimpse of how life flows along the Mekong. Experiences like these are what make this journey so memorable. 🌿✨

Xin chào Vietnam! 🇻🇳

Last night we were welcomed across the border with an incredible Vietnamese Lion Dance onboard Scenic Spirit.

Performed by a talented group of local teenagers, the show was full of energy and colour, said to bring good luck and good fortune to everyone watching. Another highlight of this journey so far and so much fun to experience. 🦁✨

Phnom Penh by day, I’m not sure what I was expecting from this city, but it impressed me.

It’s old but new. Modern yet still holding on to its colonial charm, with vibrant markets and elegant French architecture.

Back on board Scenic Spirit, we were treated to a cultural dance performance, such a beautiful way to end the night ✨

Today, we say goodbye to Cambodia and hello to Vietnam. It’s been an unforgettable chapter of this journey and I’m so looking forward to what’s next.

Phnom Penh by night… what a way to experience this city! 🌟

Last night we explored the city in a local remork (tuk tuk) for a city lights tour and it was absolutely beautiful seeing Phnom Penh come alive after dark. The streets were vibrant, the air warm and a great atmosphere — another absolute highlight of this trip so far.

The evening ended with a private visit to Samai Rum Distillery, Cambodia’s first and only premium rum distillery. We enjoyed an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour and tasting. I have to say, I was very impressed! 🍹

This morning was one of those moments I’ll remember long after the journey ends. ✨

We visited a pagoda in Angkor Ban, where I received a traditional blessing from a monk, definitely a highlight so far.

Afterwards, we wandered through the village with its historic wooden houses that survived the Khmer Rouge, a beautiful glimpse into local life. 🌿

This morning started with something truly special, a visit to Wat Hanchey, an ancient hilltop pagoda and monastery with sweeping views over the mighty Mekong and learnt about the day in the life of a novice monk.

Back on board Scenic Spirit, I’ve been exploring more of the ship and I think I’ve found my favourite spot, the Sun Deck. I can already picture the sunsets from here… and I’m hoping to capture a few over the coming days. I’m loving the mix of active mornings ashore and relaxing afternoons on the river. It’s moments like these that make you slow down and really take it all in.
