SANDAKAN MEMORIAL TREK
More than 80 years ago, Australian prisoners of war were forced to march through the jungles of Borneo in one of the most brutal chapters of World War Two.

Only six Australians survived.

Today, the Sandakan Memorial Trek gives Australians the chance to walk in their footsteps and honour their courage, mateship and sacrifice.
 
This is not an adventure for adventure’s sake.
It is a memorial journey.

In July 2027, Kokoda Spirit will lead a special commemorative expedition to mark the 85th Anniversary of the Kokoda Campaign.

Beginning at McDonald’s Corner and finishing on the historic beaches of Buna, this unique 239-kilometre journey traverses the full length of the Kokoda campaign area.

More than a trek, this is an opportunity to honour the courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice of those who served, while experiencing one of the world’s most meaningful adventures.

Proud to see members of A Squadron, 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (QMI), complete the Kokoda Track this ANZAC Day.

A Dawn Service at Brigade Hill is something special. A powerful way for today’s soldiers to honour the courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice of those who fought on Kokoda in 1942.

An honour for the Kokoda Spirit team to be part of the journey.

Our 23 May trekkers are heading towards Kokoda.
The group is very excited and enjoying a beautiful swim in the river at the beautiful village of Hoi.

Our 23 May trekkers are all safe at camp at Isurava Battlefields. They had a break at the beautiful village of Alola to meet some of the wonderful local families.

Tonight they will have an emotional Commemorative Service at Isurava Memorial. Everyone is doing really well and looking forward to their final day of trekking.

Our 23 May trekkers have had a great day and are now over the highest point of the track and now in camp along Eora Creek at Templeton’s Crossing.

All are doing great.
It’s all down hill now for the team except for the uphill bits!!!
