UPDATE 11-AROUND AUSTRALIA TOUR DAYS 20/21
Today we were able to explore at our own pace the many things to see and do in Darwin.
In the evening, we explored the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets. With the multicultural background of Darwin, the delicious smells of Sri Lankan, Turkish and Greek food stalls filled the air and we enjoyed various meals whilst being entertained by the fire twirlers, musicians and street performers. We wandered the arts and craft stalls finding that special top end souvenir before returning to the hotel.
We bid farewell to some guests heading back to Port, and departed Darwin heading south to Katherine. We stopped at Adelaide River to visit the
Adelaide River War Cemetery to see visiting the military graves, paying our respect to those killed in the bombing of Darwin.
We continued onto Hayes Cafe at Pine Creek for lunch, and then onto Nitmiluk to enjoy a river cruise through the magnificent Nitmiluk Gorge. We learnt about the culture and history of the Jawoyn people, as we cruised down to the end of the first gorge where the beauty of large boulders, rock pools and sands greeted us. This area makes up the crossover to the second gorge. What a magical afternoon we all had before heading back to Katherine for the night.
