Today, Disney Cruise Line shared more details on the expansion of its award-winning fleet, including the introduction of a new class of vessel and the addition of a fourth ship in the Wish class. These ships, which will debut between 2027 and 2031, will be constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, and designed by Walt Disney Imagineering.

New Ship Class
The three vessels in Disney’s new ship class will feature industry-leading technology and design to expand Disney Cruise Line’s global reach and support its environmental goals. Able to carry 3,000 Guests and measuring approximately 100,000 gross tons, they will be 20 percent larger than the Disney Magic class and smaller than the Disney Dream and Disney Wish classes, ultimately allowing Disney Cruise Line to access more ports and destinations across the globe, bringing its world-class entertainment, incredible dining, Guest service, and uniquely Disney experiences to more families in more places. The three ships are planned for delivery in 2029, 2030 and 2031.

Among the lightest cruise ships of their size in the industry, the new vessels will save fuel with a streamlined hull, next-generation power and propulsion systems, and numerous other operations optimized for energy efficiency. In addition to an innovative design and the efficient use of building materials from bow to stern, the ships will be outfitted with energy-efficient systems and a battery system to support and supplement the main engines.

When in port, the new vessels can rely on shore power technology to turn off their engines and “plug in” to a port’s energy grid to run onboard systems. They will also have the capability and flexibility to operate on a variety of fuels, including hydrotreated vegetable oil and renewable methanol fuels, while remaining adaptable to additional fuel options that become available to the cruise industry. The new class will also continue Disney Cruise Line’s long-standing initiatives to minimize waste, conserve water and align with The Walt Disney Company’s 2030 environmental goals.

Fourth Wish Class Ship
In addition to this new class of vessel, Disney Cruise Line will introduce an additional sister ship to the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny. The ship, set for delivery in 2027, will be approximately 144,000 gross tons, accommodate 4,000 Guests, and be powered by liquefied natural gas.

UPDATED: Monitoring Hurricane Milton

We continue to closely monitor the path of Hurricane Milton. Based on the latest projection, we are making additional operational adjustments for the safety of our Guests and Cast Members beginning, Oct. 9.

The Walt Disney World Emergency Operations Center is connected to weather experts and community leaders. Please know these adjustments have been made in order to leave plenty of time for our Guests and Cast Members to return to their Resort hotels or homes safely hours before higher winds are expected to reach Central Florida.

Operational Impacts Include:

Walt Disney World Theme Parks
On Oct. 9, our theme parks and Disney Springs will be closed in phases beginning at 1 p.m.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom will close at 1 p.m.

Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Disney Springs will close at 2 p.m.
It is likely the theme parks will remain closed on Thursday, Oct. 10.

We will consider opening Disney Springs Thursday late afternoon with limited offerings.
This includes the cancellation of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom on Oct. 10.
Event tickets will be refunded.

Disney Resort Hotel Closures

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will temporarily close beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9. They are likely to remain closed until Sunday, Oct. 13.
Transportation

Walt Disney World Transportation will stop operating Wednesday, Oct. 9 after Disney Springs and the Walt Disney World theme parks close.
Limited Minnie Van and Mears taxi service will be available to Walt Disney World Resort Guests.

Recreation

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf and Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Disney’s Blizzard Beach remains closed for planned refurbishment.

Reservations for Dining and Other Experiences

Effective immediately, we will not enforce cancellation policies until further notice for dining and other experiences.
Pre-paid bookable experiences will be automatically refunded within 7 to 10 business days.

Disney Resort and Room-Only Cancellation Policy for Reservations Booked Directly with Disney Destinations, LLC or The Walt Disney Travel Company:

Due to potential weather impacts to guest travel plans, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of Tuesday, 10/8 - Monday, 10/14.

Most room-only and vacation packages can be modified, or cancelled online, including changes to travel dates, without fees. Packages including air transportation or other services provided by third parties, or those with travel protection, cannot be modified or cancelled online.

Airports, Cruise Terminals and Resorts Close as Milton Approaches

Hurricane Milton—which weakened overnight from a Category 5 to Category 4 storm—has caused mass evacuations, cruise departure cancelations, resort closures and more in Florida.

The latest from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that Milton will bring storm surges of 12-plus feet to areas of Florida’s west-central coast, including Tampa Bay and the surrounding area. The NHC says “this is an extremely life-threatening situation.” It adds that “devastating hurricane-force winds” are expected in portions of the state’s western coast. Heavy rainfall, which would bring about flash and urban flooding, are expected through Thursday.

Hundreds of flights from and into Florida airports, including Tampa International Airport, Orlando International Airport, Southwest Florida International Airport and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, have been canceled as of Tuesday morning, according to FlightAware. Newsweek reports that Tampa, St. Pete-Clearwater, Sarasota Bradenton, Southwest Florida and Orlando International Airport, among others, plan to close either Tuesday night after the last flight or Wednesday morning. Miami International Airport plans to remain open. Airlines including American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit and United have issued waivers/advisories regarding travel to Florida.

Walt Disney World is currently open and operating under normal conditions. Some areas, including Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, will close this week. Universal Orlando also says it is open and operating as normal.

Inbound and outbound vessel traffic to the Port of Tampa port has ceased. Carnival may have upwards of eight sailings altered due to Milton. Royal Caribbean, Margaritaville at Sea and Celebrity have already announced alterations to sailings this week.

While Milton has briefly weakened, CNN reports that this isn’t uncommon for such storms and could even re-intensify, possibly even surpassing its previous peak strength. On Monday, Hurricane Milton had maximum sustained winds of 180 mph.
