The iconic Great Cormorant on K’gari doing its classic “wing-drying” pose 🌊🖤
Unlike most water birds, cormorants don’t have fully waterproof feathers.
After diving deep for fish, they perch with their wings spread wide to dry them in the sun and wind before heading back underwater again.
It might look dramatic, but it’s actually part of their daily routine on the island.
You’ll often spot them around the beaches, lakes and creeks of K’gari — standing completely still like they own the place 😅
