Look closely and you'll see the scribbles — tiny tunnels left by moth larvae carving their way just under the bark. Scribbly gums line parts of the track, each one marked differently, like the forest's own handwriting.

Hiknig on K'gari - the only way to stay the night at world famous Lake McKenzie!

Most people see Lake McKenzie for an afternoon or day only, if you hike you get to camp at the hikers' site here experience that other people don't! Sunset with no day-trippers left on the shore, and a sunrise swim before anyone else arrives. It's the only way to spend the night at this lake, and one of our favourite camps on the whole walk.

Did you know? The satinay trees that hikers encounter at Central Station and within the Valley of the Giants were originally transported away from the island by boat. Valued for their durability against marine borers, the timber from K'gari's satinay trees was utilized in the reconstruction of London's docks following World War II bombings, as well as in marine piles for the Suez Canal.

What appears to be pristine has a history that stretches back further than you might expect!

⭐️7 days, 6 nights (4 nights camping, 2 at Kingfisher Bay Resort)
⭐️~80km total, moderate fitness required
⭐️Five of K'gari's freshwater lakes, including Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby
⭐️ Ancient rainforest through the Valley of the Giants, with trees over 1,000 years old
