Ahead of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) elective congress, the Taolo Lucas campaign team has placed women's leadership at the centre of its campaign, saying its proposed executive reflects a deliberate commitment to empowering women within the party.

The team says its leadership slate features women with extensive experience in the BCP Women's League, including former leaders who have served at the highest levels of the league.

The slate includes a former President of the BCP Women's League, a former Vice President of the BCP Women's League, and a former Chairperson of the BCP Women's League, among other female leaders.

Supporters of Lucas have described the composition of the team as "unprecedented", saying it demonstrates a commitment to ensuring experienced women play a central role in the party's future leadership.

BCP delegates are expected to elect a new leadership at the party's upcoming elective congress, where Taolo Lucas is contesting for the party presidency.
