🎒 The kids are back to school... when's YOUR next break? 😂

Backpacks ready. Lunches packed. New shoes already at risk of being destroyed.

And just like that, we're back to school, sports, activities, homework and trying to remember where everyone needs to be. 😂

🌴 What's the exact moment your brain says: “Yep... I'm on vacation”? 😂

For me, it's pretty simple.

Bags are in the room.
Changed into something appropriate for 30°C.
Found the beach.

Then I watch my kid sprint straight into the ocean without a second thought. 🌊😂

Yep. We're on vacation.

☀️ One last long weekend before real life starts again. 😂

Labour Day always feels like the unofficial finale of summer.

One more cottage weekend. One more BBQ. One more beach day. Or maybe absolutely nothing planned except enjoying the extra day.

Then it's back to school, activities, routines... and eventually complaining about the cold. 😂

And if the end of summer has you thinking “We need something to look forward to this winter” 🌴 — I can help with that.

🌴 Apparently when you get home from vacation, you're expected to make your own breakfast again. 😂

No buffet downstairs.

Nobody made the coffee.

There's no pool to wander down to.

Yep... vacation is officially over.

For me, I immediately miss the warm weather, having nowhere to be, someone else doing the cooking and maybe having a drink at a completely unreasonable time because... vacation. 🍹😂

But everyone has that ONE thing they miss first.

What's yours?

And you can't say “being on vacation.” That's cheating. 😂👇

🎾 Sometimes you don't choose the destination — the event chooses it for you.

In 2024, I wanted to experience the US Open in person.

So I booked a trip to New York and went. 🎾🗽

Watching professional tennis on TV is one thing. Being there — the crowds, the atmosphere and seeing some of the best players in the world right in front of you — is completely different.

And that's something I love about travel.

Sometimes the experience comes first, and you build the vacation around it.

Maybe it's the US Open. A Formula 1 race. A football game. A concert. A Broadway show. Or something that's been sitting on your bucket list for years.

For me, it was tennis in New York. And after the National Bank Open again this summer, apparently tennis and travel are becoming a bit of a theme. 😂🎾✈️

🌴 It's funny what kids remember from a vacation.

We remember the resort, the room, the food... and probably how much it cost. 😂

Kids?

They remember the waterslide they went down 25 times. The afternoon ice cream. The kids they met at the pool. The fish they saw in the ocean. Or some completely random moment we barely noticed.

That's one of my favourite things about family travel.

We might plan and pay for the vacation, but we don't get to choose which memories become the important ones. ❤️

🌴 Remember my $6,000 family vacation challenge? I found the answer.

🏙️ Sometimes you don't have to travel very far to feel like you're on vacation.

Last week we spent a few days in Toronto and decided to turn it into a little family getaway.

We stayed downtown, watched Caleb experience his first TFC match — a pretty wild 3–3 draw! ⚽ — visited the CN Tower and Ripley's Aquarium, ate some great food and even found time to enjoy the hotel pool.

It was only a few days and we weren't far from home, but it still felt like a vacation.

That's one of the things I love about travel. It doesn't always require a plane or a tropical beach.

Sometimes the memories you're looking for aren't very far from home.

☀️ How is it already the last weekend of August?

Summer absolutely flew by.

With school starting soon, routines are about to kick back in — lunches, activities, early mornings and everything else that comes with September. 😂
