HOME. 🇯🇲

If I had to choose one word to describe how Jamaica makes me feel, that would be it.

Jamaica has welcomed me about a dozen times over the past eight years — for work, for vacation, and sometimes a little bit of both. 😉

Sandals Negril was my very first Sandals resort and remains one of my favourites. Seven Mile Beach, those incredible sunsets 🤩… there’s just something about going back again and again.

But Jamaica is so much more than beautiful beaches and sunsets.

It’s the people. Their warmth, their hospitality and their genuine welcome are a huge part of why this island feels like home to me. And watching their resilience over this past year has only reminded me what a remarkable people they truly are.

It’s why Jamaica remains one of the first islands I think of for my clients… and why Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts are top of my list for their vacation dreams to be made!

Sometimes a place stops feeling like somewhere you visit… and starts feeling a little bit like home. 💚💛🖤

IS SUN-KISSED SUE GOING BACK TO SCHOOL? 🚌📚

As the kids get ready to head back to school next week, there’s something we need to talk about…

Sun-Kissed Sue started as a summer series! ☀️

All summer long, she’s been popping up here every Friday with a little travel wisdom, a peek behind the scenes of my business, and a few of the funny, unexpected and very real moments of life along the way.

Some weeks she’s made us laugh, some weeks she’s gotten a little sentimental… and some weeks she’s simply helped me tell a story in a way that only Sun-Kissed Sue can. ☀️

But now summer is winding down, the school buses are set to roll again (in fact one just passed me on my lunch time walk)… and there’s one little question left to answer.

Does Sun-Kissed Sue grab her travel textbooks and hop on the bus? 🚌📚

WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS… BOOKINGS! ☔️🧳☀️

Apparently vacations travel in packs. 😂

This has been one of those weeks — new bookings, cruise cabins ready to book, new vacation requests landing in my inbox, quotes still being reworked for travellers looking for their “aha… THAT’S the one!” moment… all while taking care of the little details for clients who are already booked.

Apparently someone put out an “Everybody come at once!” memo this week… and somewhere under this pile is ONE travel advisor trying to keep all these vacations straight. 🤣☔️

Which brings me to this week’s little bit of Sun-Kissed Sue wisdom:

☀️ Good vacation planning takes time.

The right resort. The right room. The right flights. The right cruise cabin. The right fit for you. There can be a lot of moving pieces — and I’d much rather take the time to get those details right than rush just to get something booked.

It’s also why I’m probably not your “I want to leave next week — what can you find me?” travel advisor. 😉 There are only so many vacations one Sue can thoughtfully juggle at a time!

Because despite what this cartoon suggests, I do NOT own a magical umbrella that makes perfect vacations fall from the sky. ☂️😂

And every once in a while, this travel advisor needs to put down the umbrella and enjoy a little real life too. 💛

What if an all-inclusive vacation wasn’t really about the “all-inclusive” at all?

Last night I had the opportunity to learn more about Club Med Ψ … the company that helped pioneer the all-inclusive vacation concept more than 75 years ago.

One phrase from the evening really stuck with me:

“Selling the idea of happiness.” ☀️

And that might be the best way to explain what makes Club Med a little different.

Their resorts aren’t just about a beautiful beach, unlimited cocktails and a buffet.

They’re about doing things — trying a new sport, taking a lesson, skiing in the Alps, learning to sail, flying on a trapeze (okay... maybe not me 😂), or simply giving everyone in the family the freedom to find their version of a great vacation.

And they’re worldwide — from the Caribbean and Mexico to Canada, Europe, the Alps, Asia, Africa and the Indian Ocean. 🌎

It’s a very different take on the traditional all-inclusive.

And after last night, I think I understand their philosophy a little better:

They’re not really selling a resort.
They’re selling what you get to feel while you’re there.

Happiness looks different to everyone. ❤️
