Welcome to the “MOST PPL WALK PAST THIS PLACE” series 👀🏮

Just a few minutes from the FIFA crowds and stadium rush sits one of Vancouver Chinatown’s quiet little gems 🍵✨Aiyaohno Cafe .cafe 🍵✨

A cozy Japanese-inspired café hidden along the historic streets of Chinatown, Aiyaohno has slowly become a favourite for locals who truly love matcha. Their matcha is sourced from high-quality Japanese tea leaves with a rich, earthy flavour that’s smooth, vibrant, and never overly sweet. Every drink is carefully prepared, letting the natural depth of the matcha speak for itself.

If you’re visiting Vancouver during FIFA season and want to experience something beyond the usual tourist spots, this is the kind of place worth wandering into.

What to try:
🍵 Signature Matcha Latte
🍓 Strawberry Matcha
☕ Cozy café vibes perfect for a break between exploring

Sometimes the best places in the city are the ones most people walk right past.

📍425 Carrall St, Vancouver Chinatown
⚽ Come explore beyond the stadium this FIFA season

Honor the asian heritage month: The Sung Family Legacy: 130 Years in Vancouver’s Chinatown

I take you on a walk through Vancouver’s Chinatown to share my family’s remarkable 130-year journey. As a third-generation Chinese Canadian, I discuss how my maternal and paternal grandparents built their livelihoods in provisioning and food service, and how my family chose self-employment during challenging times to thrive and become integral members of the Vancouver community. I showcase the pride of my family’s accomplishments and the broader Chinese Canadian community’s contributions, while highlighting the vibrant diversity of modern Chinatown—from beautiful gardens and museums to the Chinatown Storytelling Centre, traditional barbecued meats, dim sum, herbal medicine, and family-centered cultural practices.

In April, many Asian families observe Qingming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Day) a time to visit our ancestors, clean their resting places, and offer food, flowers, and prayers.
It’s not just tradition, it’s a way of remembering where we come from and staying connected across generations.

Curious about what foods are traditionally offered?
Comment “Qing Ming” below and I’ll send you the full list of ritual dishes 🍊🍚
