🟦 EVACUATION TALKS OFFER HOPE FOR CIVILIANS TRAPPED IN OCCUPIED OLESHKY

Ukraine is working to finalize arrangements for a ceasefire and the evacuation of civilians from Russian-occupied Oleshky and six nearby settlements directly to Ukrainian government-controlled territory, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said on Espreso TV.

Negotiations with Russia are taking place daily. Difficult issues remain unresolved, but Lubinets said progress had been made and expressed hope for concrete results soon.

Ukrainian estimates suggest around 6,000 civilians, including up to 200 children, may remain across the affected settlements. Up to 2,000 are believed to be in Oleshky itself, on the occupied left bank of the Dnipro in Kherson region.

For those still there, these negotiations concern the most basic possibility: reaching somewhere they can obtain food, receive medical care and live without being trapped between mined roads and the front line.

Food and medicine shortages have left residents facing desperate conditions. Ukrainian troops have used drones to carry humanitarian supplies across the Dnipro, reaching people whom conventional aid deliveries cannot safely reach.

But even receiving food has brought danger. Kherson regional authorities reported that Russian forces shot down aid drones, confiscated or resold provisions, and detained civilians who collected the packages.

People trying to survive should never have to fear punishment for accepting something to eat.

The proposed evacuation would give those who wish to leave a route directly to territory controlled by their own government. That is the outcome being negotiated; safe passage has yet to be secured.

For families waiting in Oleshky and the surrounding villages, the measure of progress will be an evacuation that actually happens—one that brings them out safely, together with their children and those who cannot make the journey alone.
