Welcome to Tashilhunpo Monastery — the spiritual heart of Shigatse and one of the most important monasteries in Tibet. Founded in 1447 by the First Dalai Lama, this magnificent monastery is the traditional seat of the Panchen Lamas and home to thousands of years of Tibetan Buddhist culture, art, and devotion.

Walk through ancient assembly halls filled with butter lamps, giant thangka walls, chanting monks, and intricate murals that tell stories of Tibet’s rich spiritual heritage. One of the highlights is the towering 26-meter golden statue of the Future Buddha, the largest gilded statue in Tibet.

Day 21: Gyirong → Nepal Border → Kathmandu

Description: We retrace the high plateau route eastward. Though long, the drive is visually expansive with wide skies, nomadic encampments, and distant snow peaks.
