This wee fella has had a busy couple of months emptying the feeder of hazels and hiding them around the garden. When leeks are pulled, buried hazels come up with them.

Still cold out there, but there's plenty of life in the garden.

Dunkeld is a wonderful place to visit and under 14 miles from The Old Coach House. A beautiful village on the Tay with lots of great walking options in and around including the well known #. There are plenty of excellent options for eating and drinking, including The Perth Arms, , , , # and . Very much a year round destination but particularly worth visiting for the annual Santa Day parade and markets. Thank you to local author # for allowing us to post her picture!

Over the next wee while, we will highlight some of our favourite places and things to do within easy reach of the Old Coach House. First up is the wonderful Persie Distillery, on the road to Glenshee, less than 10 miles from the house. An excellent range of gins in the distillery shop (and their vodka too), and tastings and tours available which are both informative and great fun. Chrissie and Simon, the owners, love what they do and its infectious! All that and a special range specifically supportive of animal charities. A must-see if you're a visiting gin or vodka afficionado!

There are other eating/drinking places we will happily recommend in town over and above those mentioned in our recent posts. For a takeaway, Taste of China never lets us down. The new Sampan is well worth a visit (sit in or takeaway) if you enjoy Indian food. Sliderz is a popular choice for burgers. And there are plenty of places we just haven't personally tried that are worth looking at. But our final, strong recommendation, for the moment, is Cornerstone Deli. A terrific local option with a great cheese counter and all manner of tasty treats, and a comprehensive wine collection. A must visit for anyone looking to spoil themselves on a night in. # wine

No visit to one of the town's eating establishments (in fact no visit to the town) should go without a visit to the Alehouse. Regular winner of good beer and pub awards and a friendly, welcoming place. No food however! Open from 5pm most days, and 2pm Sundays but closed Monday. The place we visit more than any other!

Next up is the venerable Church! Willie Little is well known around these parts and beyond, and previously ran the highly rated "Little's" restaurant here. Now reopened as The Church , he continues to offer high-level cooking, with a comprehensive menu supplemented by changing daily specials. We were here on the same night as this reviewer https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/lifestyle/food-drink/5356775/blairgowrie-church-tapas-grill-review/. We can confirm he really did eat all that food! And we concur with his description of it. Also check out the cosy snug bar!

Next up in our brief tour of our favourite places in town for eating and drinking is . New to the town this year, The Causerie offers genuinely high quality and inventive cooking. We have been completely spoiled for choice on our visits from an interesting and varied menu, and they throw in the occasional themed nights (Japanese most recently). They get an awful lot out of such a wee kitchen! It's marvellous!

A bit has been happening in Blairgowrie lately, with some new quality restaurants having opened. So we thought we'd post a few of our favourite independent places, some new, others longer established, that we go back to time and time again. First up, the the Wee Coffee Shop. Perfect spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch. We think the name doesn't tell the whole story - it's not just a coffee shop! Some proper good home cooking goes on here.
