One Caribbean island has been keeping a very good secret.

Opened in 2024, Sandals Saint Vincent is the newest Sandals resort to know about, set between lush mountains and some spectacular shades of blue. It feels fresh and modern, and a little removed from the ‘usual’ Caribbean resort scene.

The accommodation is a real highlight for us, from private plunge-pool villas to beachside and beautiful overwater stays, while 12 restaurants mean there’s plenty of choice when it comes to dinner.

Days can be as active or as horizontal as you like – out on the water, exploring the island, picking up a racquet or simply finding your favourite spot by the pool.

And that’s potentially what we love most: Saint Vincent still feels wild, green and gloriously unspoilt. Sandals have simply given us a very beautiful place to stay while we explore it.

Think you know Dubai? Look beyond the skyline. ✨

There’s the Dubai of Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, where pearl-diving heritage and traditional Emirati architecture tell a very different story; abra rides across Dubai Creek, spice-filled souks and the fascinating Al Shindagha Museum.

Then there’s the Dubai that does everything bigger. Ascend the Burj Khalifa, dive 60 metres beneath the surface at Deep Dive Dubai, head into the desert, charter a yacht or spend an afternoon between the beach and pool at one of the Palm’s five-star resorts.

For families, there are waterparks and endless ways to fill a day. For grown-ups, exceptional dining, beach clubs and a rather impressive choice of ways to do absolutely nothing.

Come for the skyline. Stay for the layers. Dubai never runs out of ideas.

Thailand brought a little bit of everything for Richard and his family – from the laid-back luxury of Devasom Khao Lak to the wilds of Khao Sok, where they swapped the beach for Elephant Hills’ Jungle and Lake Safari to a proper taste of the rainforest.

Then came Koh Samui, with a stay at Santiburi and a peek at the resort’s beautiful Reserve Pool Villas, before finishing this chapter in Bangkok at Banyan Tree Bangkok, where city views from the rooftop made a rather good finale.

This episode of the Turnbull family travels shows why Thailand works so brilliantly for families: adventure when you want it, beautiful beaches when you need it, and enough pools along the way to keep an eight-year-old very firmly on side.

Next stop: Sri Lanka…

Some people switch off on holiday. Our Personal Travel Concierges? Not quite…

Caroline, one of our Personal Travel Concierges, recently escaped to The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama for an anniversary trip. It was very much a personal holiday, but naturally, she came home armed with plenty of first-hand recommendations for our clients, too.

𝐇𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬?

✨ "Book one of The Retreat rooms or suites. You’ll have access to a dedicated pool, and daily luxuries like ocean view breakfasts, sunset cocktails, spa access, and dedicated Ambassadors to help with every moment of your stay. If you’re travelling for an occasion - like me - The Retreat makes it ten times more special."

✨ "The pools are beautiful, but make sure to make use of the beach. You reach it via the resort’s little train (which is such a lovely ride, by the way), and there’s also The Beach Club restaurant there too. That’s a great spot for an afternoon cocktail or a pineapple colada."

✨ "Order the fried octopus at Txoko. It comes with a light potato cream and is quite literally what dreams are made of! Delicious."

Even when our team aren’t officially working, their brains are never switched off from luxury travel. They’re noticing the details, trying the restaurants, testing the experiences and filing away the things they know our clients will want to hear about.

It’s just one of the reasons why first-hand knowledge runs so deep at Destinology. ❤

After the wildlife and rainforest adventures of Sarawak, Richard and his family continued into Sabah, where the pace slowed and the scenery became even more special.

First up was Shangri-La Rasa Ria, where days brought a rather lovely mix of beach time, family-friendly activities and plenty of opportunities to enjoy being somewhere this beautiful.

Then it was onwards to Gaya Island Resort, tucked away in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, where jungle meets the South China Sea and island life quickly becomes the order of the day.

For an eight-year-old, this part of the trip had an especially strong appeal: more pools, more adventures, more wildlife and a whole new landscape to explore. For the grown-ups? We suspect the chance to slow down for a few days wasn't exactly unwelcome either.

And there was still a lot of Asia to come… Next stop, Thailand.

𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞! ❤️

Voting for the British Travel Awards 2026 closes next Friday 11th September, so if you’ve been meaning to cast your vote, this is your little nudge.

It’s been a complex year across travel, but our team has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to rework itineraries, find new routes and keep trips on track when plans changed unexpectedly.

If you’ve travelled with us or trusted us with your plans over the years, we’d be incredibly grateful for your support. Every vote means a huge amount to the people who make your holidays happen, day in and day out.

And there’s something in it for you too: everyone who votes will be entered into a prize draw to be in with a chance to win a selection of travel-related prizes.

The new school year has barely begun, but we’re already thinking about October half term… and Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi is one of our favourite options for this time of year.

For younger guests, there’s plenty to keep them entertained, from thoughtful in-room teepees and the Kids Palace to family-friendly experiences including the resort’s own bee farm and a full-on family aqua adventure – complete with slides and a lazy river.

For parents, the pleasures are a little more grown-up: lazy afternoons around the Cascades pool, spa sessions, and restaurants that make the most of those sea views. The sort of details that make a family holiday feel like a proper escape for everyone.

So, while the school run is only just getting back into swing, it might be time to look ahead. October half term in Abu Dhabi, anyone?
