Choosing the right cruise makes ALL the difference. 🛳

We've been on a lot of cruises over the years, and one thing we've learnt is that two ships can offer completely different family holidays.

One might be absolutely brilliant for younger children who want pools, activities and something happening from morning until night. Another might be better when you're travelling with teenagers who want a little more independence. And if you're bringing grandparents along too, suddenly you're looking for something that works for three generations, without anyone feeling like the holiday has been designed entirely around somebody else.

That's actually one of the reasons we think cruising can work so well for families.

You can spend parts of the day together and parts doing your own thing. The children can be having the time of their lives while the adults get a couple of peaceful hours, then everyone can meet back up for dinner or a show.

And tomorrow? You wake up somewhere completely different without anyone having to pack another suitcase.

But we'd never say “just book a family cruise.”

We'd want to know who's travelling, the ages of the children, what everyone enjoys, how important the food is, how much space you need, where you'd like to visit and what you actually want the holiday to feel like.

Then we can use our own cruise knowledge to help narrow down the ship, cruise line and itinerary that make sense for your family.

Because there are plenty of cruises that allow families onboard.

The important bit is finding the one your family will genuinely love.

When people hear “luxury cruise”, it can be easy to assume it's all about how beautiful the ship is.

And yes, looking at Silversea, the ships, restaurants and food certainly play their part. But what actually is interesting is how much of the experience is built around where you're going as well as how you're getting there.

Silversea sails to more than 1,000 destinations across all seven continents, so this isn't necessarily the cruise I'd only be looking at for somebody who wants to spend their days relaxing onboard.

I'd be considering it for someone who really wants to see the world, experience different places and come home feeling like they've properly travelled, but wants a very different level of comfort while doing it.

There are some details that really set that experience apart too.

Would Silversea be right for everybody? Not necessarily.

The cheapest holiday isn't always the one I'd recommend.

And no, that doesn't mean I'm going to try and convince you to spend more than you need to.

Sometimes the cheapest option genuinely IS the best option for you. But sometimes spending an extra £100 or £200 can completely change what you're getting for your money.

Maybe the slightly cheaper hotel is an hour and a half from the airport, while another is 20 minutes away.

Maybe one price looks brilliant until you add luggage, transfers or the board basis you actually want.

Maybe Hotel A is £150 cheaper, but it's somewhere you'll end up getting taxis every evening because there isn't much around it.

Or perhaps you're travelling as a family and the slightly more expensive hotel has so much more included for the children that you'll actually spend less once you're there.

These are the comparisons we make when we're researching holidays.

I'm always conscious of the budget you've given me, but I'm also looking at what you're actually getting for that budget.

Because if you've saved £200 but spend the whole holiday wishing you'd chosen the other hotel, was it really better value?

For us, finding you a good deal isn't necessarily about finding the lowest number on the screen.

It's about finding the holiday where your money is being spent on the things that matter to you.

Choosing a Sandals resort isn't quite as simple as deciding, “We fancy the Caribbean.”

They can offer very different holidays depending on the island, location and the kind of experience you're looking for, which is why I'd always spend a little time working out which one is right for you rather than simply choosing the one that looks nicest in the photos.

If I were choosing for myself, Sandals Grande St. Lucian would definitely be high on my list.

Part of that is because I'd want to experience Saint Lucia itself. If I'm travelling all that way, I like having the option to get out and see somewhere, and Saint Lucia gives you that combination of a beautiful Caribbean escape with an island I'd genuinely want to explore.

But that doesn't mean it's the Sandals I'd automatically recommend to everybody.

You might prioritise the beach above everything else. You might want somewhere particularly romantic and peaceful, or perhaps you're the couple who wants plenty going on. Flight options, budget and how you actually spend your time on holiday all come into it too.

That's where I can help.

Rather than leaving you to compare resort after resort wondering what the real differences are, I can look at what you want from the holiday, research the options and help match you with the Sandals resort and Caribbean island that suits you.
