5 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

My colleague has explored several parts of Canada, but the Canadian Rockies really stole the show! From turquoise lakes to breathtaking mountain scenery, it's a destination that deserves time to explore properly.

Here are Jo's five top tips for planning your trip:

🏔️Give Banff the time it deserves - Spend at least three days exploring. Beyond the incredible mountain scenery, you'll find outdoor adventures, lovely shops, great restaurants and a lively atmosphere in the evenings.

💙Plan ahead for the iconic lakes - Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are every bit as stunning as the photos suggest. Book your shuttle in advance and consider staying in Lake Louise to enjoy the scenery at a more relaxed pace.

🍂Choose your season carefully - Summer is ideal for hiking and turquoise lakes, while September and October bring beautiful autumn colours and the possibility of early snowfall. Remember that mountain weather can change quickly!

🚂Don't try to see everything - The Rockies are vast, so leave time for scenic stops, spontaneous walks and simply soaking up the views. For a special experience, consider the Rocky Mountaineer train journey.

🏙️Book early and add Vancouver - Accommodation near the most popular sights fills up quickly. Jo also recommends combining the Rockies with Vancouver, where you can cycle the Stanley Park seawall, explore Granville Island and enjoy the views from Grouse Mountain.

Jo visited in October and loved the autumn colours and first dusting of snow.

Her biggest takeaway? Slow down, plan ahead and give this incredible part of Canada the time it deserves.
