At an estimated 75 million casualties, there's no doubt that the second world war had an impact on the daily lives for all involved. For some of us at Live History, our grandparents were evacuated as children and some older family members even joined the army upon reaching eighteen towards the end of the war. Eighty years ago today on 8th June 1945 the N***s surrendered to the Allies, marking the end of the second world war. Let us not forget the sacrifices of those that came before. Happy Victory in Europe Day everyone!

Happy St George's Day from all of us at Live History! Before the adoption of Turkish-born St George as England's patron saint by King Edward III, Saint Edmund was England's saint. This ex-Roman soldier was executed for his Christianity on the orders of Emperor Diocletian in the fourth century. The story of his slaying a dragon is a medieval invention, his fame escalating during the time of the crusades. It has traditionally been a day of feasting, pageantry, music and plays, known as the 'riding of the George.' Celebrated in Shakespeare's plays, the 23rd April is ironically the day of Shakespeare's birth and death. Why not revive celebrations by doing something historical today? Our audio tours are available to download from www.livehistory.co.uk Experience the past (especially on Saint George's Day)!
