Around the world, a simple cup of tea can look – and taste – completely different.

To celebrate International Tea Day today, let us take a little journey through some of my favourites:
🥤 Bubble tea in Taiwan: chewy tapioca pearls, ice-cold tea and fun flavours, born in the 1980s and now a global obsession.
🧊 Cha yen in Thailand: strong black tea, sweetened with sugar and condensed milk, poured over ice for that creamy, orange-hued refresh.
☕ Masala chai in India: bold tea simmered with spices like cardamom, ginger and cloves, an everyday ritual with deep roots in family and street culture.
🫖 Afternoon tea in the UK: delicate sandwiches, cakes, and of course a proper brew – my inner tea expert comes alive here (I LOVE a good scone).
🍵 Green tea in Japan: from everyday sencha to ceremonial matcha, it is all about purity, balance and centuries-old tea traditions.
🌿 Mint tea in Morocco: fragrant, sweet and endlessly poured, a symbol of hospitality that I have loved experiencing first-hand on my travels there.

As an Asia specialist, a self-confessed tea nerd and someone who plans trips around these little rituals, I love how each cup tells a story about place, people and history.
