💍 Do you have to honeymoon straight after the wedding?

Absolutely not.

For some couples, leaving the next day is part of the magic.

For others, it makes more sense to wait because of:

☀️ Better weather
💷 Better value
✈️ Better flight options
📅 Work commitments
🌍 The destination they really want

A mini-moon straight after the wedding followed by a bigger honeymoon later can work brilliantly too.

The right answer is the one that gives you the best experience, not the one tradition says you should have.

If your dream destination is better six months later, I’d rather help you plan that than compromise just to travel immediately. ❤️

🇹🇭 SARAH’S HONEYMOON JOURNAL — THAILAND

Thailand is one of those places that gives you so much more than one type of holiday.

You can wake up in the middle of the jungle…

Spend the afternoon with elephants…

Eat incredible food for a few pounds…

Then finish the trip barefoot on a beautiful beach. 🌴

What I loved most was how easy it was to combine adventure with proper downtime.

And for honeymooners, that’s a pretty perfect combination.

🌿 Khao Sok for something unforgettable
🏝️ Phuket, Khao Lak or the islands for the beach
🍜 Incredible food everywhere
💆‍♀️ Massages whenever you fancy one
❤️ And enough variety that two weeks never feels repetitive

It’s romantic without needing to be overly polished.

Fun without feeling hectic.

And it gives you stories to bring home, not just beautiful photos.

I can absolutely see why so many couples choose Thailand for their honeymoon. 🇹🇭❤️

🇱🇰 + 🇲🇻 Sri Lanka & Maldives is one of my favourite honeymoon combinations.

Start with adventure…

🐘 Wildlife
🚂 Scenic train journeys
🌿 Tea country
🏛️ Temples and culture
🍛 Incredible food

Then finish with the complete opposite…

🏝️ Barefoot island life
🌊 Crystal-clear water
🥂 Sunset drinks
💆‍♀️ Spa days
❤️ Time to do absolutely nothing

That contrast is what makes it work so beautifully.

You come home feeling like you’ve had two completely different holidays, without them feeling disconnected.

And because the flights work naturally between the two, it’s a pairing that makes sense logistically too.

💍 How early should you book your honeymoon?

For most couples, I’d suggest starting around 9–12 months before travel.

And for certain trips, even earlier can be worthwhile.

Especially if you want:

✨ A specific room or suite
🏝️ Maldives or Mauritius in peak season
🦁 Safari during a key wildlife period
✈️ Premium cabins or specific flights
🏨 A popular boutique hotel
📅 School holiday or Christmas dates

You don’t need every wedding detail sorted before you start looking either.

If you know roughly when you want to travel, your budget and the kind of honeymoon you want, that’s enough to begin.

And honestly? Getting the honeymoon booked is quite a nice thing to have waiting for you once the wedding planning is over. 😂❤️

It doesn’t have to be the Maldives.

It doesn’t even have to be straight after the wedding.

What matters is that it feels like you two.
