Planning a long weekend in the UK? Check this out …
The sun is out and you’re thinking of planning a long weekend….Check out these places and skip the crowds.
SOUTH
Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall: fishing villages, quiet coves, and none of the St Ives chaos. Just a short drive from the tourist trail but a world away from it.
Man O’War Beach, Dorset: a steep footpath keeps the crowds out. Mix of sand and pebbles, clear shallow water, and Lulworth Cove nearby if you want to explore further.
Steephill Cove, Isle of Wight: no cars, no arcades, footpath access only. Exactly what the British seaside should feel like.
NORTH
Bamburgh, Northumberland: one of my favs! wide empty sands, a 12th century castle, and views across to the Farne Islands. Even on a sunny weekend it stays quiet.
Robin Hood’s Bay, Yorkshire: cobbled streets, craggy cliffs, and a fraction of the crowds you’d find in Scarborough. Sits on the Coast to Coast walking trail too.
Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Yorkshire: Blue Flag beach, Victorian pier, iconic cliff lift. Proper seaside without the chaos.
WEST
Rhossili Bay, Gower Peninsula: three miles of golden sand consistently rated one of the best beaches in the UK. Remote enough to stay uncrowded.
Llŷn Peninsula, Wales: 100 miles of quiet coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and beaches that feel like they haven’t changed in decades.
EAST
Southwold, Suffolk: beach huts, a working lighthouse, an award-winning pier. Quietly brilliant and far calmer than you’d expect on a sunny weekend.
Holkham Beach, Norfolk: vast, pine-backed, and consistently one of the emptiest stretches of sand in England. Bring a picnic and take your time.
Walberswick, Suffolk: tiny village, unspoiled beach, and the kind of place people are reluctant to share. Now you know!!
