The round-the-rock race is a five mile out five mile back reach for experienced cat sailors to cape Lefkata, its lighthouse and a rocky islet that needs to be passed to port. In this YouTube video, former Wildwind beach manager Joe Bennett shows how it's done.

Praise for Wildwind's first Intensive ILCA Clinic for Ladies with Maartje

For the first time ever, Wildwind held an Intensive ILCA Clinic specifically for women, coached by our own chief instructor Maartje van Dam.

"The ladies were very keen and eager to learn but perhaps a bit more collaborative than some of our mixed clinics. We had a good range of sailors from experienced club racers to newcomers to ILCA sailing, but this group notably supported each other and took the time to discuss and answer questions. Many, many questions!" says Maartje. A great start of the season

Two weeks into our 37th season and I'm delighted with the feedback that this year's team has already received from our clients. The weather has been magnificent and the two Intensive ILCA Clinics held over the last week - including our first ILCA Ladies only clinic led by Maartje - as well as Joe's Advanced Catamaran Training had been fully booked for months, and we have been asked to add more such weeks at the beginning of next season. Meanwhile, Aaron has just started his first of three ILCA Clinics

New event, 3 and 10 August
Kids' Intro to Racing

For the weeks of 3 and 10 August, we are putting on two very special weeks for youngsters between 8 and 17 who know how to sail already, but who would like to find out a little more about dinghy racing. This includes, but is in no way limited to the important question: how to beat mom, dad and their friends in a simple race!

Superbly qualified instructors
We are incredibly fortunate to have a team of superbly qualified instructors, many of whom have had experience in the RYA's youth programmes. We have just taken delivery of seven Optimists training boats alongside our extensive fleet of dinghies and catamarans; we'll be sharing our knowledge of the sailing rules in a simple way that will give all our youngsters a basic grounding before going on to offering our top tips.

Lots of fun in the afternoons
As you're aware, Vassiliki is known for its high-wind afternoons, so we'll concentrate our efforts in the mornings, leaving the kids free to join the activities of Wildwind's Splash Club in the afternoon. This often means supervised fun at a swimming pool or at the local waterpark. Of course, they can also stay on the beach to sail with the family, or join one of our famous joyrides at top speed around the bay together with our experienced instructors. They'll also have the chance to try sailing in some of our more sophisticated craft, perhaps the RS 800 or 49er, or one of our F18 catamarans if they are old enough, or maybe an RS500 or Hobie 16 accompanied by one of our instructors if a little younger.

RYA certification
For those who like a more formalised training, we offer the RYA Youth Start Sailing Stages 1 to 4, with optional certification. There's no extra fee for joining the courses.

For our Intro to Racing weeks, our regular children's discount applies, with double discounts for kids under 13 years old. Places are limited, so do get in touch as soon as possible if you're kids are eager to participate!

Discounts for kids and teens

At Wildwind, we like to promote the sport of sailing and one of the best ways to do this, is to help kids get comfortable on the water at an early age. Since the founding of Wildwind, we have therefore always offered generous discounts for teens and kids, apart from the free and included youth programmes Wildwind's Spash Club and the Wildwind Youth Squad. Everyone aged 13 to 17 at the start of their holiday receives a discount £125 on a one week holiday and £200 on a two week holiday, whereas kids from 7 to 12 receive double discounts of £250 for one week holiday and £400 for a two week holiday.

Wildwind's Friday Beach Olympics

For the 2025 season, we have revamped our Club for Teens & Kids and turned it into two separate programmes so that all our young guests get a holiday that's best tailored to their specific desires and abilities.

The Splash Club and Youth Squad come together for the whole of Friday to enjoy what is likely the highlight of the week: the Wildwind Beach Olympics! Rigging boats sailing races, capturing the flag, paddle boarding, swimming and a diving competition go on throughout the day. And at the 6pm prize-giving, Youth prizes are awarded.
