✨ Inverness in 1856 ✨ A glimpse into the past — this beautiful illustration shows Inverness Castle just two decades after the building was completed. Back then, and up until recently, the castle served as a courthouse and prison, standing watch over a growing Highland town.
The suspension bridge, the quiet river life and the surrounding streets all whisper stories of a time when the railway was arriving and the spirit of the Highlands was beginning to lure people from further afield. From civic centre to cultural landmark, I wonder how many footsteps this hill has seen? 👣
