🛂What is EES?
The EU Entry/Exit System or EES is a new electronic border system in Europe that replaces the physical stamping of passports at airports, ports etc.
When you go through passport control on your arrival to, and departure from your destination, as well as providing your passport you will also need to have a photo of your face taken, and your fingerprints scanned. You may also be asked questions about your stay.
🛬On arrival into your destination
Have your passport to hand, ready to go through EES. As well as your travel details, like where you are staying, as you may need to provide them.
🛫When leaving your destination
Follow your transport provider’s advice on when you arrive at airports and ports. European flights often advise arriving at least two hours in advance.
Give yourself plenty of time and go through passport control as soon as you can, in case of longer queues. Your airline or airport will have information on when to arrive. Check their website, app and any information you’ve received from them when taking your return flight home, as there may be longer wait times due to these additional checks.
