Another hour well spent pond watching today. Conditions must be near perfect for dragonflies and damselflies to emerge. I counted 5 x dragonflies exuvia and 7 from damselflies. A fab endorsement of a healthy pond!

Fantastic wildlife in our pond and the surrounding garden. We have identified six butterflies, six dragon/damselflies, six bees and the newts are still busy. My little wildlife haven is thriving!

While struggling to photograph bees in the jasmine I realised the reason it was so difficult is because the bee feeds from the base of the flower...not the centre...they are such fabulous creatures to watch!

Our wildlife garden is peaking...and I love it! It's not going to last long...the drought is taking its toll but the bees and the butterflies are enjoying the spring flowers. Needs to warm up a bit and we can welcome the dragonflies and the crickets...watch this space!

Flora superb, weather gorgeous, +++newts in pond but swallow numbers are dismal!

Spring is well under way here at East Witton, it's the 28th of April but I've only just seen my first garden swallow...worryingly late!

Spring flowers appearing in our wildlife garden, tadpoles and newts in the pond and chiffchaff and bullfinches in the apple tree. Gorgeous!

Attention all botanists and lovers of all things wild....this may look like a not so interesting bank on the River Cover but this morning my walking buddy Mags Cran and myself counted 21 species of flora in a patch no greater than 2 x 2m! List available!!

Early purple orchid....can be found within half an hour from here...how lucky are we!
