🍂 The lanterns are still lit…

Our Halloween marathon may be over, but Tales from the Necropolis continues every weekend, so you certainly haven’t missed your chance to join us!

We’ll be heading back into St James’ Cemetery this Saturday at 6:00pm for another lantern-lit evening of Liverpool’s history, folklore and ghostly tales.

And November is a particularly beautiful time to visit; fallen leaves, darkening evenings and the last of the autumn atmosphere. 🏮🍂

Traditionally, November is also the Month of the Holy Souls in the Catholic Church, a time especially dedicated to remembering and praying for the dead. It feels rather fitting for an evening spent uncovering the lives and stories of those who came before us. 🕯️🪔

🎃What a Halloween week!🎃

After touring every night throughout Halloween week, our Halloween marathon has finally come to an end!

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us. We’ve met so many lovely people over the past week and have genuinely enjoyed every tour.👻

Tales from the Necropolis is a very small business — it really is just the two of us. We research the stories, the history, answer the messages, organise the bookings and, of course, put on the costumes, light the lanterns and lead the tours. 🍂🕯️

So thank you to everyone who chose to spend an evening with us and took a chance on our tour. Every booking, recommendation and kind review genuinely means a lot to us. 🍂

The eve of All Hallows’ Eve is upon us…👀

As October draws to a close and the nights grow ever darker, there’s something rather magical about this time of year. 🍂

Did you know that the name Halloween comes from All Hallows’ Eve, the evening before All Saints’ Day on 1st November?

Rooted in the Christian calendar, All Saints’ Day is a particularly important feast for Roman Catholics, honouring all the saints in Heaven. It is followed by All Souls’ Day on 2nd November, when Catholics pray for the faithful departed. 🙏🏻🕊️

And what better place to reflect upon Liverpool’s fascinating past than amongst the old gravestones and winding pathways of St James’ Cemetery? 🪦💀

🌕🏮 THE HUNTER’S MOON HAS RISEN OVER THE NECROPOLIS!🎃

Last night saw the arrival of October’s magnificent full moon, traditionally known as the Hunter’s Moon. But did you know there’s a fascinating history behind its name?🧐

🌕 The Hunter’s Moon takes its name from the time of year when the harvest was complete and people traditionally hunted and gathered food in preparation for the long, cold winter ahead. Its bright moonlight provided valuable extra light during the autumn evenings. 🍂

And what a fitting sight as we enter the final days of October! 👀

Our ghost tours become even more spine-tingling when the skies are wild and stormy; the perfect backdrop for exploring Liverpool’s most haunted “Canyon of the Dead.” 💀 Just wrap up warm and wear sensible, sturdy footwear so you can navigate the paths comfortably and safely. 🍂🥾

Fun spooky fact: On one particularly rainy and flooded New Year’s Eve, one of our own guides Mr Roberts spotted a mysterious figure in a long white robe standing by a cluster of undisturbed Victorian gravestones… 🪦 only for it to vanish completely as they drew closer. Perfect weather for the restless spirits of St James’ to stir!👻
