eBay for Business Awards: £10,000 and Support Package for UK Entrepreneurs

eBay UK is accepting entries for its 2025 eBay for Business Awards, designed to recognise the growth achievements of eBay sellers operating across the UK. The awards aim to support further business development by offering both financial support and promotional opportunities to selected winners.

A total of six award recipients will each receive £10,000 in cash, £1,000 in Promoted Listings Priority credit and tailored support from a Marketplace Advisor. Winners will also be featured in an eBay 'Seller Stories' video and invited to attend a dedicated eBay event.

Applicants must operate an eBay business registered in the UK. Individual sellers and businesses are eligible.

This year's categories include awards for customer service, strategic growth, long-standing sellers, community involvement, social or environmental impact and emerging start-ups. Each category is intended to highlight different aspects of business success on the platform.

Children’s Work Permits
Child Employment
With the school holidays coming up, employers need to be aware of the regulations regarding employing school age children.

A young person (aged 13-16) who is involved in any form of paid or unpaid work in Conwy must be in possession of an employment permit. This must be carried on them at all times whilst they are engaged in that employment.

Employing a child under the age of 13 is illegal

There are regulations and byelaws that specify the type of work and number of hours that young people (13-16) are permitted to undertake during any school day, weekend or holiday period

Their employer and parents/legal guardians must comply with the byelaws and fill in an Employment Permit application form on their behalf within one week of the child commencing work.

Welsh Government Consultation
Plans to cut business rates for smaller retail shops

The Welsh Government has announced a 12-week consultation, which could benefit around 13,000 retail properties across Wales.

It would cut rates for retail shops with rateable values less than £51,000, to help them compete with online retailers. Larger properties with rateable values over £100,000 could be charged slightly more, but some public buildings like hospitals and schools would be protected.

If approved, the changes would start on 1 April next year. The exact rates will be set during the Welsh Government's budget planning for 2026 to 2027.
