This dinner at Botrini's in Santorini is where I remembered who I was.

I'd booked a table for one online, so they were expecting me. It was misty, so the hostess sat me under cover facing the caldera and the Aegean, and they offered a blanket and turned on the heater. I sat with a glass of red w**e thinking, I chose this for me, I worked hard for this, and before I'd even ordered, the scene in front of me brought tears to my eyes.

Let this be your reminder that you can go to nice hotels and restaurants on your own, and when you do, order a glass of something while you decide.

Don't settle for anything in life that makes you feel smaller than the person you truly are.

Maybe there's a place you've been saving until someone can go with you. I stopped waiting, and Corfu was the first stop of a birthday trip I took on my own.

I'm Kayla Mason, founder of World Traveling Daughter, and I plan luxury travel for women, however they travel. This is Corfu at dusk, in July 2025. Every evening in Greece I had dinner on the water, with a glass of w**e, the soft waves of the Ionian Sea and the sunset, and those dinners felt magical and therapeutic.
