A rare glimpse into the past.

Before the Dome and Quire ceilings were adorned with our famous Byzantine-style mosaics, the Cathedral looked like this – a quieter interior, where the eye was drawn instead the extraordinary arches and curves of Wren's design.

What appears to be a Victorian monument at the junction of Queen Victoria Street and Bucklersbury in the City of London is actually a ventilation shaft for the underground railway below. It dates from 1987 when the Docklands Light Railway was being contructed.
