Heading west out of Canberra, we drove through the grasslands, weaved our way through dense forest and crossed the rugged mountains to get to the NSW South Coast. Here, there are many deserted beaches, rivers and national parks to explore and an abundance of native wildlife to meet. We introduced the kids to the small beach-side town of South Durras, where I spent many of my childhood summers bathing in the clear, cold ocean and trying to catch fish in the lake. The kids especially loved meeting the local kangaroos who regularly snack on the grass outside my Nana and Pop's beach shack. With limited phone reception and no wifi, it's been a wonderful mini break from the outside world.
