The Kirker team recently enjoyed a walking tour led by Juliet Rix, tracing the stories behind London’s statues of women. Juliet’s new book is the first full guide into the lives and stories behind the statues of women in the city's streets. A 2021 survey found only one in six named-person statues in London were of women, yet the past decade has seen more monuments unveiled — from Virginia Woolf and Mary Wollstonecraft to Ada Lovelace and Millicent Fawcett.
An award-winning journalist with expertise in women’s history, heritage and European travel (with a special fondness for Italy, Malta and Gozo), Juliet keads a number of Kirker's specialist Cultural Tours, including the "History & Heritage of Malta & Gozo", and "Megalithic Malta" with New Scientist Discovery Tours. This week, we had the pleasure of hosting our annual spring lecture at the Royal Geographical Society in aid of the Venice of Peril Fund. Guests enjoyed a prosecco reception before a fascinating lecture by travel writer Sara Wheeler, author of the newly-released biography 'Jan Morris: A Life', which has garnered critical acclaim. Jan Morris’s Venice topped bestseller lists around the world in 1960, becoming one of the best-loved accounts of the city. Wheeler's talk shone a new light on Morris' relationship to this beloved city, her career as a travel writer as well as the nuances of her personal identity.

Sweden's capital Stockholm is one of the world's most elegant capitals – where fishermen cast for salmon in the clean waters below the Royal Palace. On 22nd April, the British Antique Dealers’ Association will be hosting a lecture titled 'Benton End - A Home of Art and Irises' examining the
artistic home and gardens of Sir Cedric Morris. Kirker are delighted to sponsor this lecture, given by Beatrice Prosser-Snelling from the Garden Museum in London; Beatrice is the project director for the restoration of the garden and house. For those interested in art and gardens, this is a talk not to be missed.
