Five years ago today, I took a leap of faith and started my journey as a Travel Counsellor — building my own business from the ground up ✈️💗
And what a journey it has been.
I’ll always remember the day I started with Travel Counsellors. Just a month before, I had ordered myself a summer house for the bottom of the garden, which would become my little office and the place where this whole journey began.
I remember waking up on the first day of training with so many mixed emotions — excited, nervous, hopeful and wondering what the future might hold. Sitting in that summer house, starting this brand-new venture, I had no idea what the next five years would bring.
Little did I know those five years would include a global pandemic that stopped the world travelling overnight, the Dubai floods causing chaos for thousands of travellers, ongoing travel disruption across the globe, and now even the uncertainty surrounding the current conflict involving Iran and the wider Middle East.
There have been so many highs and lows. Good times and incredibly difficult times. Moments where you feel exhausted, overwhelmed and like giving up — but you don’t. You push harder, work harder and keep showing up for your clients.
Because the feeling of building something that’s truly your own is indescribable.
For the first time, my destiny was in my own hands. I could choose to sit back and wait for opportunities to come… or I could go out and grab them with both hands. And that’s exactly what I did.
And when you realise that only around 38% of UK businesses make it beyond their first five years, it makes this milestone feel even more special. Especially within the travel industry after everything the world has faced over the last few years.
Over the last five years:

✨ Thousands of clients added to my database 🙌
✨ Countless memories created for families, couples and friends 🙌
Not bad for something that once started as just a dream and a vision I had for my life many years ago.
I always knew I wanted more — more freedom, more opportunities, more time with my family and a career built around genuine passion for what I do. Through determination, resilience and a lot of hard work, I can honestly say I’m now living that dream.
And that feeling will never be taken for granted 💗
When I look back, I feel incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved in such a short space of time.
But more than the numbers, what I love most is helping people bring their dream holidays to life. Seeing the excitement, the countdowns, the photos and memories afterwards — that’s the reason I do what I do.
Running my own business has also given me something even more valuable: time and experiences with my family.
Over the last five years, we’ve travelled more as a family than ever before. That was one of the biggest reasons I took the leap in the first place — for the work-life balance, to be there for my family when they needed me, whilst also building something successful and financially secure.

Every trip has reminded me exactly why travel is so important.
One thing I’ve always promised myself throughout this journey is that I would remain visible, available and present for my clients — not just when things are easy, but especially when things go wrong. Whether it’s delays, cancellations, natural disasters or global uncertainty, I’ve always wanted my clients to know they have someone there supporting and guiding them every step of the way.
Because I truly believe travel changes you. It teaches you so much about the world, about people and about yourself.
