James 1:19 tells us to "be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry." During our morning Bible study, Beth reminded us of how much this shapes the way we should live and work alongside one another.

Listening well isn't passive; it takes intention. It means putting down our own agenda for a moment and giving someone our full attention, even when we think we already know what they're going to say. Speaking less readily and holding back quick judgement or frustration doesn't come naturally, but it changes the tone of a team, a home, and a friendship. It's a small discipline with a big impact.

We're carrying this into the week: listening a little longer, speaking a little slower, and choosing patience over reaction. It's a simple verse, but living it out well is one of the most practical ways we can love the people around us.

This morning in our Monday Bible study, Debi shared a powerful reflection on a passage many of us know by heart:

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV)

We often see these words printed on cards or mugs, surrounded by peaceful imagery. But when we look at the historical context of Lamentations, the true depth of this promise becomes much more profound - and much more challenging.

Lamentations was written during a dark period of exile, famine, and war. The writer was actively grieving the destruction of Jerusalem, recognizing that this suffering was the consequence of the people's long-standing rebellion against God. God, in His holiness, was allowing His chosen people to experience the weight of their choices.

This brings us to an important truth about God's character: He is holy and just, and He does not ignore sin.

So, how do we reconcile His justice with the promise that "we are not consumed"?

The answer is found in the gospel. Because God knew we could never meet His standard of perfection, He established a way to remain both perfectly just and incredibly merciful. Jesus took the judgment upon Himself, satisfying God's justice so that we could receive His unmerited grace.

Debi reminded us today that our hope is not found in ignoring the realities of a fallen world, but in knowing that even in our darkest seasons, God’s covenant faithfulness remains unshakable!

No matter what yesterday looked like, or what challenges today might bring, His mercies are fresh, His love is secure, and His grace is ready to meet us exactly where we are. We can step into this week with absolute peace, knowing we are deeply loved, fully forgiven, and never alone. 💙

This morning Bekky shared a powerful reflection from Hebrews 12:28:

"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe."

To understand the beauty of this verse, we looked at the contrast between two mountains in Hebrews 12.

Mount Sinai was where God gave the Law to Moses. It was a place of thunder, fire and trembling. God's holiness was so overwhelming that the people stood at a distance and even begged for Him to stop speaking. It was a vivid reminder of the separation between a holy God and sinful humanity under the old covenant.

But Hebrews tells us that, through Jesus, we have come to Mount Zion. Not a mountain of fear, but a mountain of grace. Not distance, but fellowship with God.

At the centre is Jesus, the Mediator of the new covenant, whose sacrifice has made a way for us to come confidently into God's presence. Because of Him, we no longer need to live in fear of approaching God. Instead, we are invited into a relationship marked by joy, gratitude and worship.

These verses remind us that we are receiving "a kingdom that cannot be shaken." Whatever uncertainties surround us, God's kingdom remains secure. Our response is to be thankful, worshipping Him with both reverence and awe - not because we are afraid, but because we are held by His grace.

What an incredible encouragement to begin a new week: we come not to a mountain of fear, but to a mountain of joy, where we are welcomed by our loving Father through Jesus Christ. 💙
